CollectEM! TGF2

Author Comments

CollectEm! is a game created with the The Games Factory NG version.

The point of the game is to use your mouse to hover over the gold coins to collect them while avoiding coins of other colors. When you collect all the good yellow coins in the level you gain energy and go to another one of the 80 random levels in the game! When you max out your energy you go to one of the random 20 bonus levels in the game! There are over 100 total levels in the game!

It is my first submission ever to newgrounds.com, any feedback is much appreciated!

Okay game

It has potential. One problem is that when you finish a level, the next one begins immediately. So your cursor can end up in the middle of a 'bad coin' sh- storm. I learned quickly to move my mouse out of the game window before the next level started but I shouldnt have to. Program a pause between levels or a safe zone for the player to start in.

Thanks for the helpful review EDB2.

In the 2nd screen I did mention that below the brown lines is the safe zone and that coins will not appear there. I also mentioned moving the mouse outside of the game zone when you're about to finish a level for safety.

However, your idea of programming a pause between levels is a much better idea. This way the player will not have to worry so much about the next level that is starting since they will have enough time to move out of the way before it begins. Thanks for your very helpful review, it has got me thinking of how I can improve my future releases.

Thank you.

How TGF2 was supposed to be used

I must admit, although I use Games Factory myself, I usually dread seeing the logo as I'm usually expecting another chocobreak variant, or a crappy platformer someone slapped together in 10 minutes. This is different and has restored my faith that there are people out there that are actually using the program to make decent and fun games.

It was very addicting and although the graphics were simple, I liked them. The music was fitting and the game concept was something that you don't always see. Good job.

Only thing that kinda put me down a little was a repetition of some levels. You have that set to generate randomly?

Overall, good game, quite addictive and I hope to see more from you. Good job!

Thanks for the review LosaruTaiyo.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game and actually found it addicting. It means a lot to me.

About the levels sometimes repeating, I did use Random() in TGF2 so that it would calculate randomly which level to jump to next. Every now and then it would jump to the same level though. I looked it up on the ClickTeam forums and it turns out that the random operator has something to do with the computer's clock. So I guess in the end it might not be so random after all and repeats will occur depending on what time it is on your clock... that's what I understand so far anyways.

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked the game :)
I will continue to make more.

This is pretty good!

This is a great first attempt at using Newground's flash libraries! Keep up the good work!
3/5 stars!
Optimism is KEY!
