Snailiad is an 8-bit-inspired game, which uses the NES palette most of the time, and uses NES music I wrote using Famitracker. I hope you enjoy it! :-) There's some references to eight-bit classics that helped inspire Snailiad, and you might also find a cameo or two from RPG Shooter: Starwish, if you play long enough.

Big thanks to:

AdamAtomic, for Flixel!
xdanond, for drawing some stuff!
newstarshipsmell, for lots of testing!
jsr, for Famitracker!

Starting with Flash Player 10.3, Flash save data gets DELETED if you clear cookies or browser history. If you're having trouble with saves, this list might help:
1. Don't clear your cookies or history
2. Make sure the Flash Storage Settings say "Unlimited"
3. Make sure "private browsing" is OFF
4. Make sure "clear browser history on exit" is OFF
5. Make sure "block sites from setting any data" is OFF (for Chrome users)
6. Don't run a program that deletes stuff, like CCleaner or Better Privacy

Once you defeat the final boss, you unlock the "radar"! The radar tells you how many items are left in the current area.

There's a hidden mode in Snailiad! Once you've unlocked it, it will be one of the choices in "NEW GAME", below EASY and NORMAL.

If you set your browser zoom below 100%, the bottom and right sides of the game will get cut off. Please make sure your zoom is at least 100%!

i see what you did there!

you can't hide stuff like that from me.
the most obvious reference in the game:it's dangerous to go alone, take this!

anny ways,on to the review.
i found this pretty fun, although not challenging enough.
in the times of NES games, games were short, but tough.
in this game,i saw alot of stuff that reminded me good ol games.
metroid, with in particular those stupid snail enemy things >.>
that old game with the guy in a moon car of some sort by the controls of the character:climbing to walls and shooting in the air as we want to
megaman:jumping shot
legend of zelda:the weapons and references.

overall, the game is pretty colourfull and enjoyable.
for all of you nostalgia gamers at home, this is the game that might bring you back memories.

Hey wait a second....

The levels and retro feel remind me of Blaster Master for the NES... Especially the ice level with the red pits of lava(?) being patrolled by wall crawlers and hoppers... This game is good

I didn't really know Flixel could do this. This game is so awesome, we're probably going to be talking about it a few years from now in the same breath as Cave Story and Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. Even with the familiar Metroid elements, it's unique enough to stand on its own; all the game mechanics work perfectly, the writing is fun, the boss battles look scary but aren't over challenging, and best of all there are tons of things to discover. The music in the ????? world was good enough to make me stay there a while, even though it's practically a void. There is just so much here.

Thank you, stranger.
