Author Comments

Dirt is an animation accompanying the revised version of a poem written during a search for universities. Its a response to my initial frustration with having people telling me not to write anything personal in the "personal statements"... after writing the poem I decided to actually write a "personal statement". Enough about me...I do hope you like the animation and please I would greatly appreciate you reviewing it, it would mean so much (too much?) well enjoy.

Dirt:

From the moment you are born. Innocence.

Everything experienced for the first time. you won't get that feeling again.

Grade school-given freedom to play in the dirt. For a limited time.

The older you get, the more humiliating it is to play in the dirt.

Self-conscious of image. Decades without a soul.

The days get shorter. Your spirit drifts away.

And before you know it. you become one with the dirt.

Touching

Hmmm... I feel a bit derpressed now, but in a rather good way, if you know what I mean... not sad, more melancholic.

Your flash movie is touching, with a thoughtful deepness that's rather hard to find among so many other stuff in the internet. A fine piece of work, artwork as well as scripting. Great poem, you sure got talent.

If you allow me a suggestion, you wrote "Decades without a soul." But since you always want to be that that happy, innocent child again, you didn't lose your souI, you lost the feeling of inner peace. Therefore I would rather wrote "Decades without a hope.". Just an idea.

Thanks for making me think about life itself. Very refreshing for my soul!

Ef-X responds:

wow thanks for the review and suggestion. I'll be sure to add the line as soon as I have the chance. Your interpretation makes total sense; I didn't view it that way but I can see why.

oh, and no problem :D

Amazing

Wow, this was extremely well made with an excellent music choice. Very important and nice points are brought up too; it makes one think how much we fail to realize the reality that is life. I'm going to watch this again after I'm done writing this, and I hope a lot of other people get to see this too. You don't find much deep stuff like this on the internet nowadays.

Ef-X responds:

Why thank you stranger. I'm glad to see your interpretation of this piece and I find it to be genuine and agreeable. May this flash be a lesson to you that you will cherish and once again I thank you very much for this review.

Wow

This actually made me feel something, and I think a lot has to do with the the simplicity of the music and artwork. Normally I would want more, but I think this is one of the few cases were it works.

My only regret was the typography was a little hard to read especially when it had lines breaking it up, or it had hyphens in weird places.

Ef-X responds:

Thanx for reviewing my work. I totally agree with the typography being all over the place, I decided to go fully experimental with it and follow what I felt rather than what I thought. This of course led to weird typography. I heard minimalism can give a great impact, and I'm glad I succeeded in getting emotions out of the viewer. Thanks for the review again.

Brilliant.

I'm not really into poetry but I loved that poem. It was simple and poignant.
I think the music and animation complimented it nicely.
I gave this a 4 because the artwork just needs a better finish to it.
I know you were going for that simple style but I think it needs to be cleaned up a bit somehow.

Ef-X responds:

Thank you for the review. I do admit I felt that I rushed it a bit when it came to the quality of the art. Patience and time is something I'll plan to include on my next animation. Glad you liked the poem :D thanks again for checking my animation out.

memento mori

Feels really personal, like something you'd chalk up in a journal.

Kinda curious what'll happen if you'd apply colours and your own sounds :D

Wish i could tell a story in flash like that :3

Ef-X responds:

Thanks ketel for da review. I'm on the early stages of flash, so I'm just starting to get the hang of things. I haven't experimented as much with colors but I do plan to sometime later. Btw, you don't need to tell a story with flash...your music makes up for it :D
thanks again.
