Our game jam theme was "Ladybugs knocking over deadly butchers". We chose the obvious thing to do with that theme, so there's no need to explain it here.

Press Q to change quality, F to toggle fullscreen, and the rest of the instructions are in-game.

PS: The "red beams" are neurons. Cause your in his brain and stuff

GREAT game

Wow this is really good.
Love the graphics, music, and gameplay! Especially the different formations and units.
It was a little hard and on the last boss I never had more than 3 ladybugs.

Great Ideas

I really enjoyed the game. The whole formation ability was a fantastic mechanic and the music and visuals set the mood. My only suggestions would be if after each boss maybe the background changed up a bit maybe even just another color so it feels like your getting closer to the brain and maybe a few other enemy types.

game jam

I get that game jam is a fun concept and its "good" for a game made in under 72 hours. but as someone who likes games with a little more thought and work behind them, the flood of this type of quick game is really frustrating. The front page is filled with them! How many programmers and game makers who put alot of time and effort into making a good game get pushed out of the spot light for this game jam gimmick? I'm not bashing this game, its good for what it is, but I don't like whats going on here...

seeing as you posted this exact same review word for word on some other entries, did you even play the game?

Good game but...

Its been done before, as well as the "music" sucked a lot...

Only "innovative" thing this game has is the ability to change ship formation. Better luck next time?

A short review

To start with, choosing to do a shooter is a bit of a cop out for the game jam. I never felt like a ladybug and never felt like I was fighting a butcher. But I'll judge this game independently of the contest.

It's a lot of fun for a stock shooter. Nice choice of music, art, and sound effects. The control is smooth and easy. But there is one fatal flaw:

The screen stretches beyond my monitor, and when I fullscreen, I'm unable to use my keyboard controls (and I need the number keys to change formation). As you can imagine, this can lead to some difficulty.

I was still able to manage for the most part, though and enjoyed the challenge the game presented. So nothing new, but a well executed shooter.

(If you need to troubleshoot, I'm running Firefox 3.6.13 on Mac OS X 10.5.8)

blame adobe for locking keys in fullscreen for "security reasons"
