Classic Battleships Light

Author Comments

Each Battleship puzzle represents an ocean with a hidden fleet of ships, which may be oriented horizontally or vertically within the grid such that no ship touches another, not even diagonally. The numbers on the right and on the bottom of the grid show how many squares in the corresponding row and column are occupied by ship segments. The object is to discover where all ships are located.

There is only one unique solution for each puzzle.

Game Instructions: First click fills the square with water, second click fills the square with a ship segment and the third click brings the square back to its original state. Multiple squares may be filled or blanked by dragging the mouse.

I'm not really sure I get it

By using the "check" option, it shows exactly where the ships are, and I don't see any sort of penalty in using it? It allows you to beat a stage in a few seconds. At that point, it just becomes a memory game of how well you can remember where the ships were. Is there some penalty to using it that I'm missing, or is it really just that easy to win?
