It's a decent game. Nothing too 'flashy', but hey, checkers and chess are a bit lackluster in their visuals too (the original games).
What got me here was not the lack of eye candy, but the rules.
The in-game rules page says that you can attack pieces "downwards". I played the game once and found that i couldn't attack diagonally forwards like a pawn in chess, but the computer could do so.
Replay. Tried to get pieces around behind the comp's pieces to attack "downwards", but apparently the computer can attack in that direction too (while I can not).
Actually, after playing several times, I found that no matter what angle I attack a piece from (with an equal or larger piece, as it says in the rules) I cannot take the piece. It won't let me fight back, while the computer seems to be able to take pieces in any direction.
Perhaps I missed some obscure rule somewhere? O.o
But i'm certain this situation is not supposed to happen.

I would have actually enjoyed playing this game if it was working the way the rules say it should.
Note: I also noticed the computer started to get incredibly slow after a few minutes. I wrote this review in the sometimes 4-5 min between my turns.
Unfortunately, I can't give this a good score: 5/10
Needs a fix :)

fudo responds:

Yeah, "diagonally down" actually means "diagonally down one level". Sorry, I missed it.

Thats pretty cool

nice variation of chess/checkers. simply made and no visual gimmicks make me wonder if this would do better if it was dressed up a bit more. but as the tabletop gamer I am, I enjoyed playin. Peace!
