Author Comments

Endeavor is a game about a dwarf trying to uncover an ancient secret. Or maybe it's about exploring, climbing, and swimming. Or perhaps it's about collecting powerups and treasure. Or possibly it's just about killing things.

With multiple endings, quests, interactive npcs and ambient critters, it's my most involving game yet! It features many original musical tracks, several upgrades, and an engaging climbing and endurance scheme.

Q to return to the title screen (Use this if the game gets stuck for some reason!)

This game was made in one month for the Ludum Dare October challenge, though it took another month for release!

Note: Once you've reached an ending, you won't be able to get a different ending without restarting the game. Don't worry, getting the other endings is much faster when you know where everything is!

Update: Some people are getting lag whenever they touch a flower- this is due to an auto-save feature that I've decided to remove (note that the game still autosaves whenever you collect a powerup or switch screens, just not on touching flowers anymore). I've submitted the latest version which should get approved soon, so bear with me! Thanks for playing!

Update 12/2: There seems to be a bug with running out of endurance underwater and getting trapped in air bubbles. I'm working on fixing it! If this happens, press Q to return to the main menu, and then reload your save file.

Update 12/3: Patched to fix the underwater bug, pressing escape now pauses AND unpauses. Added tip menu screen to press p to see collections. Also added an additional creature on the island above the light beam. Hopefully the update goes live soon!

Simply incredible

This is probably one of the best flash games I've played.

First and foremost, the gameplay. Endeavor gives you complete freedom to do whatever the hell you want, as it doesn't oblige you to do what the author wants you to but encourages you to go our own way; Should you trust Malor or shouldn't you? To kill every living creature or not to? Should you listen to the non-player characters or not? If so, which ones can you trust? You feel the thrill of revealing the secrets of the game - and the best part is - even after getting all the endings I still hadn't discovered everything I could, so I played the game one more time.

Second, the music. Generally when I play games the music gets exhausting after a while, being a constant loop of the same melody repeating itself to insanity. Instead of slowly murdering your soul as you play, Endeavor offers a wide variety of genuinely good music that fits the mood of the game as you explore.

Third, the art. Sure, this style is really popular these days and quite frankly, I don't blame it. There seems to be a correlation between 8-bit graphics in a flash game and the flash game offering a good and innovative gameplay.

And last but not least, the story and character development. The story may not be the most original - you start off with nobody liking you and then you embark on an adventure - but the real deal here is how your actions in the game influence not only the final outcome, but also your character and the way you're treated.

I should give you a zero for releasing this game just before my math final exam, but failing the test will be worth it for playing this game. Okay, so maybe not, but the game still deserves a 10. Aaand now I'm off to study for the test tomorrow! >___>;

Had this come out say 20 years ago then it would have been remembered along the same lines as Zelda and Mario.
Beautiful and well set out maps, fun gameplay. Just all round perfect.

Definitely loved the music and game play. Had this Shadow of the Colossus feel to it which was a really great touch. I'll be playing this again to get the other ending, because I think I got a bad one. Ha Ha. Awesome work! Definitely a 10/10 and 5/5 from me.

love it but

amazing but how do u kill things?

Seems good, but it was great !

Love the 3 different endings. It was not boring to play the same game 3 times! Just my computer stuck a bit, when I collect a flower =)
