I made this dress-up game for kids. Unlike other dress-up games though this actually has some gameplay. You have to dress the Teddy Bear in the correct clothes according to the weather outside to get to the next level.

I have lots of ideas to expand this game adding more gameplay and other functionality. I would like to know what people think of it first though before I spend more time making TeddyWear2. Please comment. Thanks!

Since you asked so nicely...

I'll do my best to give you a comprehensive review. :)

First off, I think you did a superb job with the dress-up mechanic. A lot of dress-up games I've played involve nothing more than simple clicking and dragging, which often results in a mess of clothing all over the screen. But your method of snapping the items to specific positions is great, and makes the game look and feel much more professional. And since there aren't too many items, scaling them up and down with mouse clicks is an excellent way to keep them all on the screen at once, as opposed to making players click buttons to view separate parts of the inventory. Unless you plan to drastically modify the gameplay in TeddyWear2, I wouldn't change a thing about the interface.

Presentation-wise, everything looked pretty good. I couldn't find any bugs, broken buttons, or anything else of the sort that seriously detracted from the game. The background animation in the menu is cute; I'm sure kids will get a little kick out of that.

I don't have much to say about the graphic style except that I think you achieved a nice balance between looks and simplicity. If you're serious about making a sequel, you may want to try adding a bit more detail to some of the clothes. It wouldn't be necessary by any means, but I'm sure the kids who play would appreciate the extra eye candy. The same goes for the sound effects - they're good as is, but you may want to consider spiffing them up a bit.

You could also make the game more engaging by adding some background music, or, more appropriately, some outdoor ambience that changes based on what the weather in the game is like. I think it would do a lot in the way of grabbing kids' attention. On that note, the static images representing the different weather scenarios were rather boring. Some animation - even if it was small and simple - would be much more captivating.

The big issue I have with this game is that it's very short. With only three scenarios, it gets old quickly. It's nice that you added a free play mode with additional clothing after the main game, but I can't imagine it would capture someone's interest for too long. You mentioned that you have plenty of ideas to expand this game; if you're really committed to implementing those ideas, you should do just that. There's a lot of potential here.

With all that said, I'd now like to point out a couple of things about the game that I would change:

- It seems that the teddy can only be dressed in one specific combination of clothes in order for the game to advance, even if multiple combinations would be acceptable under usual circumstances. I think that's a bit irritating, especially since some of the clothes (such as the pants and boots) are very similar. You may want to try allowing more than one attire to be used for a scenario, and/or differentiating the clothing a bit.

- Another thing I find bothersome is how all the clothes are removed if an incorrect combination is used. I would leave the clothing on, and let players try different combinations without making them start from scratch.

To sum it up, I would continue building on this game by trying out the features you have in mind and perhaps spicing things up with more engaging sounds and graphics. And you'll definitely want to give the sequel additional length and replay value.

I hope I've helped you out! :)

Excellent review, thanks. Some good points there. I think animating the weather window is a good idea.
