8-Bit Labs: P. rotundus

Author Comments

An animated depiction of the last days and final destination of a P. rotundus specimen, part of my 8-Bit Labs series of sculptures.

Each piece is based on a classic videogame character as seen through the prism of real-life anatomy. They are rendered in clay, painted with acrylics and sealed in resin to give the appearance of a specimen preserved in formaldehyde. Seen here is a Pakku rotundus, which is based on Pac Man.

Sculpture, art and animation by Jaime Margary

Music: "Wake and Bake" by Definite One

Guitar: Emma X, Bass: Jason Armstrong

Special thanks to my friends for lending me a hand and to Valencia Community College for letting me use their lab and specimens for the shoot.

I remember seeing images of that little Pac-man and thought it was just some random sculpture someone made for fun, glad to have some closure to where and why a realistic Pac-man sculpture exists; Thank you for the little yellow critter.

I love it.

First and foremost, catchy fucking song there. The intro was nice, set everything up and lead to the slideshow portion of the video. Your work is simply amazing, you are a very talented person. I loved how you set it up to look like the discovery of a creature, and how we explore the anatomy of the little guy. I am REALLY looking forward to future videos like this, I really hope you make them some time.

awsome!

haha damn i thot it was real at first! really good i cant wait 2 see the metroid

rela!

the pac man looks so real!!! be cool if it was alive though...

it was great

and so what if it was a slide show(see sweetaga below). I think that a slide show is probably the best way to tell the story while still preserving the integrity of the original art form (sculpture). I think a live action type movie would diminish the feel of the sculpture as it is unable to move and was made to be static, if you have any idea of what I'm trying to say, cause it's hard to explain what goes on in my mind. Either way, I loved the entire concept of a lab full of specimens of the 8bit video game past. GREAT WORK, DO MORE!
