Edit: 09/16/2010 --- Edited some of the first puzzles and their hints. They should be easier now, I guess. Thanks to Mailesmyth for finding a mistake in Puzzle #1.
Edit: 09/14/2010 --- Edited some puzzles and hints and added a menu button in the puzzles section.

First of all, I'd like to say that even though the game seems simple, the coding behind it, was a lot of work. That may be because I'm not a professional programmer. But anyway, after finishing the game, I now have great respect for every programmer worldwide, no matter how simple the game may look like.

However, let's get down to business. I'd also like to thank and for their awesome paper backgrounds and, of course, YOU for playing the game, not to mention the newgrounds crew for solving my little "upload problem". I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed inventing those puzzles.

Technially, the game works. Mostly. A couple of points on functionality.

1. The mute button doesn't last. It has to be re-muted every time you change screens. Even within the same leve.

2. Why not just push the button for the hints, why type in hint?

3. It really should have a way to back out to the menu.

And a note on gameplay. Honestly, your puzzles kind of suck.

1. 2+2= is not a puzzle without context, and could be looked at in many lights, including that it could be some kind of matchstick puzzle (it was afterall arranged in a grid).

2.All of those same qualities apply to a horse, and I have never heard of 'donkey' being an insult or a TV show.

3. I have tried after image, afterimage, negative, negative image, negative afterimage, gestalt, retinal afterimage, inverse, burn, illusion, optical illusion, after effect, aftereffect, retinal burn, and shadow. None of which work and all of which apply to the 'phenomenon' associated with the puzzle. And this is on easy mode?

As I did not make it past puzzle 3 I can only comment on what I have seen. Your answers are ambiguous, and your hints are of little to no use ambiguous and even insulting. Some of them are blatantly useless. As you have a variety of puzzles, especially in the easy mode, context should be provided. On that note, there is no difference in the puzzles on any of the modes.

Ranking this game on functionality alone I would give it a 5. Ranking it on gameplay quality I would give it a 1 or a 0 depending on my mood. Graphics quality 8. Overall I am going to say the overwhelming factor in my scoring is the gameplay quality, to which I give you a 3/10 and 2/5.

First of all, thanks for your detailed review and constructive criticism.

1. As I said my programming skills aren't "professional" so I had to use basic methods for music playback. But I hope to find a better solution for part 2.

2. I've found a method to show hints via Buttons. I hope to include them in part 2 of Puzzle Book.

3. That's no problem. It should be updated now.
1. The first puzzle was exchanged with Letter Slot Machine.

2. In Wikipedia for example it's not only called donkey but also "ass", therefore it's an insult. In some cases "Jackass" is referred as a "male donkey".

3. "Complementary color" would've been the right solution. Now "afterimage" is another possible solution.

Thanks again for your detailed review. It will help me improve in part 2.

Nice concept...some issues

Not bad, but there are some issues that could be resolved to make this much better for number 2.
Good puzzles provide everything required to solve the puzzle within the puzzle itself. By example, question one is not a very good puzzle as there is nothing in the puzzle itself that leads to the correct answer...the jump to mirroring the math problem vertical is completely unrelated to anything presented in the puzzle, thus the solution can only be determined by 'guessing' that you have to mirror it, then solve it.

Puzzle two, not bad. That's more in line with a good puzzle question, everything is indeed right there.

Puzzle three...Ok, so it's not blue. Once you figure that out, then you have some idea where to go, but where exactly? Most people can figure out what is intended, but what exactly is to be entered? I know what the phenomenon is called, and have tried all sorts of variants and alternatives, but none want to work. Either there is another 'leap' to be made, or it's a guessing game as to exactly what to enter as your answer. Frustrating when you know the answer.

FuNaNdMoRe responds:

Yeah I have to admit, the first puzzles kinda sucked. They should be easier now. Anyway, now I hope to do better in number two.

Thanks for your review.
By the way, the answer was "complementary color" and now "afterimage". Sorry for the inconvenience.

keep it up:D

FuNaNdMoRe responds:

Thank you. I guess the puzzles were hard to understand. Sorry for that. The right solution would have been "complementary color". I knew I should have thrown away these "Tricky Color" puzzles :D. Anyway I hope to do better in part 2 of the game.

number 3 doesn't make sense i don't see fuckin blue! i just see white

FuNaNdMoRe responds:

Guess you couldn't solve the puzzle... :D
Even if you would see the color blue, it still isn't the correct answer. Look carefully at the arrangement of the puzzle. The "?" is placed IN the box, not over the box, which means, not the color but rather the meaning of the color is important. Why do you "normally" see the color blue when looking at yellow for a certain amount of time?

it's calling me stupid for asking for a hint on the first question. you know, the first question where it won't accept my answer?

FuNaNdMoRe responds:

Nobody called you stupid. You just did this yourself.

If you would've started with an easy difficulty, you should've used your hint points to find out what the answer would be. A puzzle often has to be manipulated to get the right answer. Try to mirror it, for example. Anyway, I deleted it. The puzzle, I mean.
