Hey everybody - been a while since I uploaded anything up here! This was an assignment for my advanced 2D animation class where we had to have two characters have a plan that went wrong. I just went with the first thing that popped into my head. I'm pretty proud of the animation in this because it's once again almost all frame by frame with Photoshop backgrounds. So, while the cartoon may not be one of my funnier ones, it has probably my best animation.

Keep your eyes peeled the next few weeks - I've got one more cartoon I've got to make for this class that will be awesome, and one more I plan to make for fun. Any reviews are appreciated, and I'll respond to all of em!

Great short

You so need to bring these guys back! With the exception of the wobbling gut of the second nerd, this is really well animated. I'd probably insist on some voices for these two, just for the fact that you've got so many nerd jokes and clich├ęs that need to be attended to.

What becomes of the robot? With that boot print in his brain, does it go on a killing spree, wrecking the nerd's chances of ever winning at the science fair that will eventually take place, no doubt.

Was the jaw dropping inspired by Ren & Stimpey? The animation just seemed heavily influenced by that and I would be surprised if it wasn't. Particularly with things like the step in from off-screen and other bits and pieces like that, you seem to be leaning that way.

A great piece of music and a very accomplished piece of Flash work. I look forward to seeing more :D

The bit with the jaw drop was actually a Tex Avery gag, but a lot of animation in Ren and Stimpy is John K. writing a love letter to Tex. The instructor for my Advanced 2D course was a really big Tex Avery fan, so I had to have a nice take in there.

I started writing another cartoon with these guys and SRM, but it never went anywhere. I have them pop up in the background here and there, but I'd love to use them again. Fat guys are really fun to animate. The robot was actually taken from another cartoon I wrote but never made about a kid in the 50's with a robot best friend. They'd fight Soviet robots like the one in this toon.

Glad you liked the cartoon!

I don't think I'll make an MW2 parody. I had an idea for one but I couldn't get it moving. Glad you liked the toon though!

Funny, but it could have been funnier.

Sure, it may be a school project, but the results of these school project flashes usually turn out to be good. In terms of art and animation, it may not be the best frame-by-frame animation (especially when compared to Adam Phillips or Noiserover), but for what you had, it's better than some of the test animations that I have done. Then there's the sound, the Audio Portal may suffer from so much competition, so little innovation, but the song you chose fit the nerd theme of your cartoon. Then there's the content, it may be original and I did chuckle, but considering stuff like Birthday Surprise, Rats on Cocaine, Mega Man and Pompous Robots, and a few other cartoons I can't think of at the moment; you may want to work on your comedic timing and delivery (though I do like many of your earlier cartoons). On the other hand, at least you didn't use 4Chan/Y.T.M.N.D./Youtube memes in this, which is a good thing since I hate that kind of humor. (Even though I'm usually open to any form of comedy.)

What I do like:
-Original, which takes a backseat to the execution.
-Good animation
-Chuckleworthy
-Nice use of an Audio Portal song

What I don't like:
-Could have been funnier.

Overall: Here's an eight out of ten for you.

Great review!

Happy to hear you enjoyed the cartoon. I completely agree it could have been funnier, but I wasn't focusing on the writing or comedy for this one; it was an animation exercise as you noted. I make a point to avoid Internet memes, as I find them pretty irritating. Many of them are funny once or twice, but enough is enough! See the horror that is Brawl Taunts, Street Fighter Club, and well, anything Rina-Chan has ever "written".

As for music, I was looking for 80's nerd music, and it happened to be the first result under "80s" in the Audio Portal! I got lucky there. Thanks again for your big ol' review - I definitely prefer it over the usual one sentence reviews - positive or negative - that I often get.

robot RAGE!

just the sole fact that it's not too bad in animation or just cause seeing 2 nerds build a robot that made me feel connected to the Nerds. No homo
