Sometime back in 2007 at the suggestion of my sister I entered an "Original Character Battle" tournament. The premise is that you depict your original character against another artist's character.
My character is Sir Yallow, a knight with no powers other than invulnerability (and a bit on the clueless side). The first round was executed on a piece of paper, and I barely etched out a win (I wasn't very good at creating comic book style works). After the first round, and seeing the kind of competition I would be facing I realized that my basic pencil and paper skills would have no chance, so I decided to do round 2 as a flash.
Such is the result. There was a week to complete each entry, and as such this flash was created under a week. I'm a fan of the old school final fantasies and as such was the inspiration and format for how I would conduct round 2. Creating the custom sprites for my invincible knight was probably the hardest aspect (it's a bit mind numbing working with sprites). I used FF6 sprites as a base and I had a good deal of fun putting this one together.
This would also be considered my 2nd 'serious' attempt at flash work, the first being the brief animation I did for my no-longer-existing website back in 2003.
