In the 1066 game you get to control the English, Viking or Norman armies. The aim of the game is to defeat your enemy's army by killing or scaring off as many of them as possible! The game puts you into the thick of the action, giving you direct control over every arrow barrage, cavalry charge and defensive stand. Taunts, chants and the presence of a strong leader will all prove crucial to winning the day.

A multiplayer option also offers the chance to test your mettle against friends.

If the game is running slowly for you, try right clicking and changing the quality to 'medium' or 'low'. This should help improve performance.

Moving and Attacking the Enemy
Selecting the 'Move' command allows you to select a new position for your unit. The highlighted area indicates your unit's range of movement. Different units can move different distances.
The Battle Unfolds
Once you have selected your commands, hit the 'EXECUTE COMMANDS' button and all the actions are played out in the Battle View. You will need to keep your wits about you, as you will be thrown into different mini-games which will determine the outcome of the round.
Click and drag your mouse on the battlefield to select the power and angle of your archer attack - then let go to rain arrow down on your enemy.
When two opposing units are next to each other, combat will occur. Hit the cursor keys at the right time to inflict brutal damage on your enemy.
Type the insult as quickly as possible to rally your troops and scare your enemy into submission.
When a unit is charging tap the space-bar as quickly as possible to build up power and smash through your enemy.
The morale of your army is incredibly important in the game, so keep a close eye on the ARMY MORALE in the info panel. Keeping your morale high and reducing that of your enemy will be the key to victory.


Very good game, but needs improvements

The historical perspective was really well done. Educational and appellative, it made me feel I was really battling for the island's conquest.
Each army is pretty unique and has it's own advantages/disadvantages. It made a good balanced gameplay.
It somehow reminded me of chess, a lot.

But aside this, some remarks I have to make about the game options:
> why in a random battle in multiplayer I can't choose the map like I do with the "challenge friend" option or in the single player mode?
> I understand there are only 3 maps you made for single player, but can't you randomize the battle field also? Obstacles could appear randomly in each map.
> why can't I create my own game code and use it for several games in a row? Sometimes the connection fails and we loose the game, and then we have to wait for one of us to get a new code.
> Is it possible to have a chat in multiplayer? (To lower the player morale... jk ^_^) Even if it's just to comment a bit after the game and congratulate our opponent for his strategical choices (or the opposite ;P)... But it's a little hard to keep changing the windows when we have to pay close attention to our turn.
> the music is very good, but I would like to turn it off without turning off all the battle sounds.

Other remarks about the gameplay (and maybe one bug or two):
> I found the "army morale" as a fine weapon to fight everyone. I've even made a test in a random multiplayer, where I only had one archers group and the king. Here's the result:

The good aspect is... Yes this can happen! Even an army of thousands can crumble to one of hundreds. I guess my opponent was thinking I was joking and didn't take me serious ;P But isn't the army morale a little to overrated in here? I just needed 5 to 7 rounds to win... And he had an entire army.
> why can't I in multiplayer undo actions like I do in single player? I played some multiplayer games where one undo would mean a victory or a defeat. There's an amount of time for each player to use... Why don't use that instead of forbidding the undo option?
> when firing arrows, sometimes I accidentally click the screen before setting the bow in the right position. I would really like to undo this click.
> I don't understand why I can't charge one group when in the previous round I was fighting another one. Is it a bug? Even the Norman's cavalry with 5 squares space will just move to the other group and simply fight...
> Why are vertical attacks not allowed? You have to be in front or at the back of the enemy to attack... This allows the player to create dummy barriers near obstacles where the other player has only one chance... To go along the barrier and eat multiple arrows and charges...
> sometimes when a group flees, it flees to the enemies side of the battle... That's cool, no big deal xD
> some outflanks are shown way too fast to understand what happened. I didn't find the outflanks in the How to Play Menu. First time i saw one I thought it was some kind of a bug.
> I don't get why there can only be battle formations of groups of 3. Why can't we select an option to form the formation? In one game happened to me an annoying. I wanted to make a boar's snout and a shield-wall next to each other, like this:

I lost that game because of the bad formation :S
> Why can't Norman's cavalry be in battle formations?
> don't finish the game when morale hits the 0. Make all groups flee and then you can finish it :P

Sequel suggestions:
> you don't need to create a new single player (I believe the multiplayer is far more popular, or at least is what makes people to keep coming... A small tutorial would suffice), but if you do, choose different continents (Asia, Africa... and maybe South America but don't add muskets, just arrows please :P)
> make a sequel, you would make us proud! :D (gotta stop writing, char limit. lol this is my longest rev. eva)

i gave this only an 8 because i beat the game way to fast in single player mode... with only three battles and they only took like 30 min to beat this did not take that much of my time. regardless this in now one of my fav games on newgrounds and i hope that you will continue making more games like this one.

Dude you need to work on the arrows NOT hitting you guys!!!

needs work in a few places.... but not bad

good game but lacks in quite a few areas. you cant use any real tactics to speak of save the two formations which dont do nearly as much as they should, and the outflanked thing. it was fristrating setting up an attack to have it fail cuz even thoguh the unit could move htere it would sit there like a retarded duck and nto attack when i wanted it. the archey needs work to. needs an indicator or something, like a line on the mininmap maybe. needs work but not bad overall.
