My first flash game, still under construction but will hopefully meet the requirements of the project Im submitting it for!

EDIT 7/05/10: Start menu added and minor balance issues corrected. Background music now stops and restarts properly without also stopping the hero explosion sound.
Needs some improvments
I had no idea the game even started until I was dead. I think you need some kind of menu. It doesn't have to be fancy. You definitely need some kind of instructions. I found myself having to press numerous buttons to find out how to play. Overall this game needs some work.
I hadnt had a chance to finish the menu screen, so I commented it out of the code when I submitted it, I was more hoping people would notice glitches before the coursework submission. A menu page has now been added with controls, so hopefully that helps! The game is under construction and Ill be making plenty of edits over the summer, so if you enjoy whats there now check back every now and then for new edits and let me know what you think :)
A few suggestion...
Did you try:
-Putting in a menu
-Putting in an instruction screen
-Not using copyrighted sprites
-Making more than one type of enemy.

There are more than 1 type of enemy, but as Im starting learning flash and have no graphics knowledge Im using the Metal Slug sprites which Im lead to believe have been opened for general use.

Fair enough, but,
No explanation on to what the hell is going on. Just throws you into the middle of the chaos. It's fun, but not enough. And, I'd give you props on the nice graphics, but they weren't yours at all. They still look good though. Make the game bigger, easier in the beginning, and give some kind of menu with a how to play option. Remake the game as something better and more original and you could have some golden goodness right here.
Ill be working on difficulty levels and expansion when I can. As stated below, hopefully new graphics and soundfiles will come in the summer, so check back then. Thanks for the suggestions!
Not Bad.
It kept me entertained for awhile. There was no guide on controls but fortunately they were simple enough to figure out. There wasn't much that made it stand out from other "horizontal action shooters" but it was still good quality. But since it's still I work in progress I wont to heavily in on it.
With a bit of luck and effort Ill be doing that over the summer, for now it meets the requirements of my project and with others due itll be a while before I get the chance do more work. But come june Ill be doing some more work on it, and hopefully with the help of a good friend be replacing all the graphics and soundfiles with our own, and expanding the game into a multilevel campaign. Thanks for the review though, Ill try and work out the 'stand out' features when we can.
