Hello ladies and gents,
this was supposed to be the original music video for the song "Dragonfly" by Analog Pussy.
But they decided to have somebody else make a video for the song as well and use that one instead without letting me know. They even paid that person the payment I was supposed to receive. Afterwards they decided to stop existing as a band. I only spend 10 months working on
this thing, so that's OK. I'm not bitter. Not one bit...
Anyway... I hope you'll enjoy.

It smurfed a daily 3rd. That's very smurfy:D

um good

the animation wuz good but it wuz way 2 happy

How can something be "too happy"?

It was a cute short-story

But the size of balloon was not proportional to the basket or to the weight of the elephant. And I know it is a cartoon, and the elephant is the size of a person, but the balloon still wouldn't have been able to carry him. This means that it all comes down questioning of you even using references when making this film, like going on Google to see pictures of hot air balloons.

But all in all, it was pretty good.

good animation but the song sucks like my ass

FoXcatO responds:

So your ass sucks?
I'm glad you liked the movie. The song certainly isn't something you'd find on my playlist either.

too many tweens

This wasn't a bad choice of a song to use. And the storyline and emotional themes were pretty well constructed. But to be honest I just really didn't enjoy this that much as I thought I would. And I usually really like your stuff. But I guess the thing is that when you want to make an extended animation you can't spend as much time making each little thing looking too perfect.

Right away the biggest problem that reoccurred throughout out this was that it had way too many tweens. There was also a bit of FBF thrown in here and there which kept it from getting too bland. But 80% of the animation was still simply tweened drawings. And the tweens didn't even look that good because the frame rate was too slow.

The only other large problem that I encountered with this was the outlines. They were generally too thick. I would have suggested to use some smoothing with the outlines. But what made this look even more awkward was the combination of rough out lines on some things (ex: the characters) and perfectly straight smooth lines on other things (ex: the balloon tether).

This wasn't a mediocre cartoon with so many errors to make it painful. But you need to improve on a few things never the less.

Thanks for your review.
The band gave me a list of songs to choose from. I chose this one because it had a bit of story in it.
I had a deadline to keep and so I had to cut some corners here and there with the animation.
The movie runs at 25 fps which is standard here in Europe.
I don't like smoothing the outlines on my characters because I think it looks ugly. I like that rough feeling the lines get when it's only set at 30 % smoothing.
The backgrounds are clean and without outline because it makes the characters stand out more in my opinion.

I like it!

What I like best about this animation is that it's very positive. I prefer such cheerful animations to those featuring murder, violence and racist and homophobic jokes. The theme with an elephant in a hot-air balloon reminds me of a game I like very much - "Whizz" for Amiga. The music suits the image perfectly.

FoXcatO responds:

Thank you very much. I always try to make movies that aren't like the stuff you see every day.
