This is an rpg/platformer hybrid like the Castlevania games on the DS, which is something I've never seen in Flash before so I decided to spend a lot of time and effort making one in Flash. It was a pain in the butt at times to get something this complex working in Flash, especially since I had relatively little experience with Actionscript when I started, so I hope you all enjoy it. The controls are explained in the "Help" section on the main menu and also by the soldier in the starting area, but here they are for further convenience:

Up Arrow - Jump
Down Arrow - Talk, go through doors or windows, etc.
Left and Right Arrows - This should be obvious
X - Attack
C - Hold down to charge magic, then release when bar at bottom left is flashing to cast
Z - Go to next dialog page when talking to someone
F - Use carbonated fruit punch (Restore HP)
G - Use green tea (Restore MP)
H - Use holy ward (Remove curse)
Space - Open status window
Esc - Close status window
1 thru 6 - Change selected magic spell (Can change any time)
Q thru U - Change equipped weapon (Only in status window)

If you're cursed, you can't attack with your weapon, so use a holy ward, cast anti-curse, or find a Zenu statue as soon as possible. You can break baskets and flower pots for items that restore HP or MP or give you money.

The game is automatically saved every time you enter a new area (when you touch an arrow post or go through a door).

If you can't figure out how to get past a certain area, just ask in the comments and I'll help you out. Remember that you need to use spells to get through certain obstacles.

Fun but I'm stuck

I cannot find the first boss anywhere. I've made it to the vine, I've seen the plant buildings, I've made it to the underground section with the piggies, but I'm stuck.

ryoshenron responds:

In the underground area where you see the pigs, keep going all the way to the right instead of climbing back up on the vines and you will enter a cave.

A fine game albeit some minor bugs

I had a blast playing this game. There is a single repetitive bugs that I always encountered when my character was hit by an enemy. My character just gone blank and I have to press jump to get my character visible again. I believe this bug occured whenever I am being hit by a close proximity enemy.

On a side note, I am able to manage to meet up the princess for the second time and found a werewolf to play with. Although I am not quite sure how we are supposed to handle it

ryoshenron responds:

You have to hit the blasts with your weapon and they will go back to him and stun him, then you attack while he's stunned.

i bought the halberd at the shop and it took all my my money, but i didn't get the item, oh well it was still alright.

ryoshenron responds:

That's the first time I've heard of that bug. Very odd.

Pretty fun. Compelling.

I've rather enjoyed this so far; it's a simple interface but it works.
The slow walking speed (or maybe the large distances) bothers me.

However, I'm stuck. I need a burn spell and... I've explored everywhere.
There are grey cupboards/lockers that I cannot do anything with. How do I open them?

ryoshenron responds:

There's a big plant you can climb up in the plains. Go to the top of that and into the doorway at the top. This will bring you to a place with plant buildings. If you've already beaten the first boss, you can keep going to the left from there and enter a cave. You get an explosion spell at the end of that cave which you can burn down that orange vine with.

I had so much fun :)

I haven't just sat down and played through an entire flash game in a long time... but with this one I did that and I'm sitting here wanting more!!

I'm even just randomly killing things and leveling up more and more for lols :)

But what I really want to know is... where is the Arabland guy's cat??

Also, in the next game, replay value would be awesome! For example... what do I do with all the moneys I have now?? Maybe an arena style place I can go after I finish the game, and I can kill a whole lot more things!

ryoshenron responds:

I actually forgot about the guy from arabland and his cat since that was one of the first npcs I put in. I should have hidden his cat somewhere.

I'll try to put something interesting to do after the end in the next one for replay value. Maybe I could have a new game plus with stronger enemies, like borderlands did.
