This is the story of Katan, a little aztec critter who works as a stonemason on huge pyramid projects. He's an eager, talented employee who beleives strongly in what the project stands for, putting in endless overtime to get things done.

When a less committed, self-serving employee hatches a plan to steal the soul jewel of the temple, the mysterious crystal skull, Katan finds himself under blame and attack from the very monument he helped to create.

I started making this toon November 2008 and finally exported it in January 2010.
Various delays, injuries, graduations and jobs made it hard to focus on for a lot of the time- but it is fairly safe to say that it took a year to make... Which also accounts for the style changes and quality progression evident throughout the four mins of play time ;)

Thanks for watching- and thanks again to Newgrounds for letting me upload such large movie files

It's so cool how you showed all the mechanics on all the traps, really makes them look like crafty creatures.

Okay, gotta say a few things here... cannot describe in a short commentary how awesome this was! For those of your asking for sound effects, it would have totally ruined the epicness in the timing of the animation with the music, which is personally the strongest point of this flash. It was fluid and most importantly it was relevant. I enjoyed the redemption of the hero at the end in light of his sacrifice and the dual ass-fucking I'm sure the villain got by that Anubis looking sentry at the end. The arrow gauntlet scene was exceptional, as well as the backdrops (both day and night). One thing that I find was very difficult to execute, however done pretty well in this particular flash was that there was an extraordinary amount of camera movement from scene to scene (ie. not many fixed backgrounds) So, as a director you tied each action sequence together with incredible tightness and therefore gave a good sense of speed and enclosure in the environment you created. All in all, I'm impressed, and not the least bit surprised that you made it to the top of the best of all time list. Adam Philips will definitely have some competition with this quality of animation nipping at his heels. Great Job!
