This is a short and rather dark music video following into the unspoken nightmare world of a girl.

Music was produced by Kathryn Dearborn, if you'd like to listen to the full quality of the song or listen to her other music please feel free to visit her myspace page at:

The animation took 7 months to complete, this is also my first completed flash, I used flash cs3 to create it, had a few problems and tried out cs4 which made things alot worse in that it hardly ran at all, but was able to resume work using cs3 again. Original size was 14.7 mbs, however after some work I was to optimize it to just under 10 mbs.

All comments welcome and looking forward to what you have to say.

Interesting interpretation

I'm certainly a little confused as to why you chose this particular interpretation for the piece. I think that I can agree with the sadness, but the violence just seemed to be taking it a little too far, in all honesty.

With how you've drawn the piece, I can agree with the animation style, but there are places that need some more work. For example, when the girl runs, the mechanics are all wrong - no movement fron the knees or hips as she hits the floor. Try having a look at slow motion footage of sprinters, when they come towards the tape, you'll see what I mean. As they hit the floor, the knees move up and the hips move down, relatively.

I think that it's not insurmountable, so give it a go and we'll see how the future pieces look.

Influous responds:

The song was given to me to animate, when i started the plans I was in a depressive state which probably shows. The monsters represent humans at it's uglyness. The dream itself is somewhat the results of a girl with post tramatic stress disorder, which is a bit hard to explain but comes to something close at heart.

Running and walking is quite a weakness for me although I didn't think it terrible, I'm unsure if I can do better.

Future pieces will not have this style. This is really a one off and I'll be going for something less intense.

Good first submission.

I liked the overall feel of the film,
unfortunately the animation was really choppy.

The drawings weren't bad, however they felt a little too simplistic.
I did like that you redrew the backgrounds, which gave your piece a surreal dream like feeling, the sound was good, and it was a nice choice of music.

So overall it was a fairly solid first submission.

Influous responds:

Hi, I think the choppyness is from when I made the animation smaller so it would fit the 10 mb limit, try setting the quality lower if this happens and it should run more smoothly if you are using an older pc.

Well you certainly have good vision. Reminded me of Silent Hill.

I'd like to see you're artwork improve. You already have a good grasp on perception, just need practice to implement it. But I mean, this was your first flash so bravo.

I especially enjoyed the part when the room dissolved into her nightmare.

Influous responds:

I'm quite the fan of the series.

kouga´s opinion

Not bad at all.
The music was really aesome, and the art was nice. But.... facial expressions are your friends, man. I couldn´t see what was the girl feeling the most of the video, even when her leg was crossed by that spike.
otherwise, it´s still a nice work.

I had some planned, of a real face of the music artist. but it was a bit too complex to do when she was turned side ways so I decided against it.
