Robin the Archer is the hero in Pixeland. This game is similar to the classic mario style with the added feature of shooting the enemies.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Fun platformer.

I like the classic feel and look of the game. My only complaint is the music gets too repetitive.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Awesome job music gets stuck in your head though.......

Rated 4 / 5 stars

only problem i have with this game is that "S" wouldnt let me shoot down.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Fun Game

The game was really fun and the sound effects were good but the music was intense. Haha

Overall: Pretty good game.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

One huge flaw

If you upgrade jumping beyond 2 before level 4, you can't get that level's star, ever. Yeah.

Other than that it's pretty fun, the AI's a bit stupid but that's okay. One thing I'd recommend would be to make the music loop, it sounds really ugly when it repeats now.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

A good fun game.

It's simple but at the same time not boring, the music is catchy and the gameplay is fun. I like it alot and I haven't found anything too gamebreaking in it.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

not actually that bad

i didnt like losing my score when i shot arrows, maybe u have to pick up arrows and when u cant shoot arows u have to stabbitystab?

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Retro and nice. Shooting arrows is really nice. What I dislike is that arrows cost score.
Also, not game related, In mario you can shoot enemies (with the fire flower)

Rated 5 / 5 stars

you made an NES game.

It feels one hundred precent like a real NES game!

and even if you look at peoples complaints, thats what people complain about in the real NES games.

Great job, I'll be playing this for a long time.

Rated 2.5 / 5 stars

it was good but...

the instant i saw that you lost score from shooting arrows i quit and will never play again, good day to you sir.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

its alright but its not worth the time it takes to load

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Robin the Retro

This is one of the very best retro games I have ever seen. It captures the annoyance and frustration of the NES in great detail, whilst maintaining that addictive gamplay and repeating soundtrack. In my mind this should be no means be described as a game close to Mario, as it is for a NES era, very diverse.
As a sidescroller this is fun addictive and a trend that is starting to fall these days, difficult. With the bonus of a shop to buy power-ups for your character this game has it all, along with the bonus stars for cool accomplishments.
This is a great game and well deserves a full 10, if this much attention to detail is put into regular games then the standard would be very high.
Great job ! :)

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Its not bad

Nothing amazing here, but it was fun. My only complaint is that the art for the enemies and main character seem to be taken from a certain game called Vox Populi Vox Dei, A werewolf thriller.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Nice and Fun

A nice game, and fun to play.

Only one complaint, the loss of points for firing the arrows, while I can see this as a way to stop people just spamming that one button and making people take care to get the best score alot of the complaints form myself and other people would go away if you got those points back for destroying something. So if something takes two arrows to kill you get back two arrows worth of points, meaning that if you shot three arrows to kill it you would be down one arrow point.

With that one change it could be an 9 star game.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

In my opinion the gameplay works quite well and is fun. I don't care at all about highscores so I don't mind if I lose points by shooting. What I care about a lot, is a nice soundtrack and I have to say there is room for improvement here. There are too less variations inbetween the music and at the part where it finally begins to sound better, it already begins to loop again. And the loop itself is pretty gltchy and not decent at all ;-)
With some added variations and a better loop the game could have kept me playing much longer.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Fun, but bugs make it iffy.

Level 4, already mentioned in a previous review, has the star unreachable unless you have level 2 jump or lower. If you get jump 3 or higher, you jump too high, yet too not enough to get in the area where the star is.

On level 10, if you don't kill an enemy after passing through the glass and X box maze, you can't go back to kill them and finish the level. You're stuck and need to restart.

On level 11, you can jump from the middle platform (where the star is) to the left platform to get the coin, but the right platform is an extra square away, and is unreachable. It's only one coin, but still. I'm a perfectionist!

Some levels allow you to jump over the top edges of the map, and you fall off the face of the earth. Need to restart. Glad there's a quit method. lol

The big red runner dudes only shoot to the left, and not to the right, even if they're facing right and chasing you.

Why are people complaining about score? You only lose 10 points per shot. SCORE DOES NOTHING. There's no submitting, so why there even is a score confuses me. If you want score that bad, just stand there under a spawn box and kill to your content. Jesus tapdancing christ.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Pretty good.

Kinda like "I wanna be the Guy" on easy mode. I also like how shooting arrows costs you points as well as damage.

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars

i dont like em o.O

Rated 0 / 5 stars

this game is no where near similar to the classic mario lol this game suck the classic mario is actually fun. let me start out about what i think about this game,
1. the graphics are horrible i mean if the game was fun i wouldnt mind but its not And the arrows dont even look like arrows
2. the story line is point less.
3. Finnaly it was rlly boring.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

OK game

Seems impossible to get stars for Level 4 and 7. Did anyone get them?

Other than that, OK graphic, OK sound, and OK upgrades.. Therefore, OK game..

Rated 0 / 5 stars

Bad game. ears hurt now.

bad graphics,even zelda I has beter graphics and music.
Bad music.(if u can call that music.

i agree with rich466.

Rated 2.5 / 5 stars

The jumping mechanics kill the game completely. In the second level, you position the blocks awkwardly and because the jumping is so off, I can't shoot the thing you need to shoot in order to complete the level.

You have a good game going here and it's very enjoyable. But like I said, the platforming destroys the game.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

i totally disagree with the majority of the posts

this was a pretty fun game. if u read the DIRECTIONS on the main screen, its realy easy and enjoyable

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

To be frank...

This isn't anything like mario, but I love the art direction and the sound, annoying it may be, is still an awesome 8-bit masterpiece. The controls need a little tweaking and the 2nd level takes a giant leap in the way of difficulty, but otherwise it's awesome!

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Addictive for a while, but horribly flawed

It's very uncomfortable knowing that a game has a jump upgrade. If I remember the numbers, leveling your jump up too much makes it impossible to get the star in level 4. If you're going to have a gap that requires a short jump, make sure there's another way around that doesn't make the game in-completable.
And fix your walls. It's possible to get stuck behind the cliffs if you choose to jump there, and it forces you to restart your level.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Pretty good

A decent game all around, but nothing too special. The music is catchy at first but got a little annoying so I had to shut it off. Different music for different levels would be my only advice.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

An excellent effort to make a 2D classic game. Congratulations, pal, you made it!

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

Not That Good

It was okay but the music was a bit annoying and I don't like that the whole game is pretty much based on your Jump Skill Level.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

i like it ^_^

biggest fan of mario and have always wanted to shoot in it awsome game and ingnore the guy under me hese a fag

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

this was a good game at first but it got boring... try making a shop that sells new weapons and jetpaks and stuff like that but i enjoyed it so i give a 9/10 4/5

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Love it!

Love the game! Thanks a lot for it!

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

i give it a 7

becauase i would like to be able to use arrows and space but good game

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

It's meh..

Meh.. It was fun for a few levels but I have to agree with people who said a Jump upgrade can be a touchy thing to mess with. I like the shooting but overall the game itself didn't interest me for very long because the levels are a bit tedious when trying to collect all the coins and stars. I didn't mind the music too much.. that's a preference thing. Not my personal favorite but still worth trying.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

nice game! with some flaws left.

its a funny game little bit repitve but i did catch myself on keep trying the it over and over again so that probly a + haha oh and lvl 4 star is ungettable with jump max.
overall good game 8/10 4/5.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Why is everyone dissing this, They obviously arent fans of side scrollers and have never played any old school games, they are probably all like 12 year olds that all just want some BS graphics and that will do them because they are tards and cant appreciate a good game when they see it, that aside. I loved the graphics, the super mario rips and the gore especialy. The music reminded me of going to the arcades back when i was young and they still had pacman. Liked the sound effects also, I noticed everything in the game from the sound efects to the graphics and the style has all been ripped from other games, Loved this so giving it ten stars anda 5 out of 5.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

This game...

Is awesome! It's like Jill of the Jungle meets Monster Bash. Hopefully I'm not the only one who played those games when I was little...

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Good game

Jumping is kinda hard in later levels though.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Pretty good

It was pretty fun.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

glitch: level 4 get your jump to 4, then go to the top left. you can jump over the cliff and offscreen.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

mm decent

decent game, but... it gets repititive. Maybe more enemies? or more challenges?

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Pretty Good Game

I like this game, I like how it's 8 - bit, the cute sound effects practically everything about it, but except for two things.

1) You can jump over the wall in some stages

2) Sometimes the enemy damages you before you touch it.

Otherwise and awesome game!

Keep up the good work and is there gonna be a sequel?

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Very very good.

I really enjoyed this very much. Very retro. Reminds me of an old school Gameboy platformers. It's got alot of the basic elements that makes a really good platformer. I really do like it alot and had a lot of great fun with it. There may be alot of things that I want to say about it, but these are mostly minor flaws. So that won't bring down the score too much.

Where to start.

The jumping. The whole idea of upgraded jumping is actually pretty neat. This makes certain level parts accessible only later on in the game. It gives the levels some replay value. Which is good. But has it's own problem that I'll get to in a minute. But the jumping in this case I think could do with a 'hold down for higher' jump mode. I'm not usually a fan of that particular method of jumping, but I think due to the level design and the fact that you can upgrade the jump so quickly, it would help if I could tone down my jumping when I want to. I got to level 4 jumping really quick and it made those small jumps really hard to do especially when there was a block above my head. Experiment with the 'hold down for higher' style of jumping and see if that makes a better interface.

The shooting takes away score idea was a neat trick. I didn't even realise until I saw my score decrease as the levels progressed because I was firing away like a nut.

Though I do like the idea of the star collecting making levels replay, I do feel it gets a little tedious sometimes because once I collect the star, I still have to go through the entire level in order to obtain it. This is especially tiresome when a star in a particular level is unreachable with my current jump level, and I have to go back again to get it. But in order to get it, I have to play through the entire level. I think you should make an exception for star collecting. Not for money collecting because that would be too much money too fast. But I think the quit level function should still retain the star that I collected just to make it less tedious when replaying levels for stars.

Also, the cost of upgrades is a little too cheap for the amount of money each level yields and the difficulty and strength of the enemies does not come close to the fire upgrades. I got to level 4 of jump and fire so fast that I breezed through the levels without much difficulty in them. I think you can afford to make enemies a little tougher, sooner. It would also make players decide on the delicate balance between upgrading jumps for getting places easier, and firepower for losing less score.

And lastly, the idea of killing all enemies to end a level may or may not be a good one. I think it's fine to include that as a level ender, but on the larger scaled levels it becomes very tedious tracking down the last enemies and killing them. It would actually be helpful if there was perhaps an 'direction pointer' that pointed to where the last enemies were once I destroyed all the spawners. That would make levels go by faster and reduce the tedium of hunting them down at the end of every level. Especially so since some of the levels are just huge.

This is a neat little retro game. There's a lot to like. And a lot that can be expanded upon. More intricate level designs with more 'upgraded only' paths. More enemies and tougher interactions.

This game is really good as it is now, and has amazing potential to be even more amazing. Good work!

Rated 4 / 5 stars

I must admit.....

I must admit despite its simplicity it has a charm to it and handles very reminiscent of the old NES games. And I just can't get tired of seeing the little people blow up into chunky bits.

Overall it can be a fun game for a while but it gets repetitive, perhaps a little more variety in enemies and gameplay mechanics would have helped. There are a few flaws with the upgrade system as already mentioned in that upgrading the jump too much can result in not being able to obtain the star at certain levels. Jumping can also be frustrating near walls as robin seems to get stuck while touching them.

There's nothing much I can say about the music, it's good 8-bit goodness but regardless it's still a repetitive loop, different music for each level or at least a longer loop would have helped. The sound effects on the other hand were appropriate and clear, I like that.

And as for the controls; simple and responsive, would it perfectly on an NES controller.

I had fun playing it through once.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

I really enjoyed that. Last level was a little to easy compared to some of the others but over all a fun game.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Love it...

Games usually aren't this fun anymore. The 8-bit is adorable. Good Job! Repetitive, but addicting.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Great but with some bad points...

This is a very good 8bit themed platformer, however there is quite a bit of room for improvement. The visuals and music, while good, become repeditive after the 4th level or so. Also, while the shop system is great, I thought it could've been built on a bit more (buyable skins, weapons, etc.?). Still if you made a sequel with more variety that was an improvement on this, I'm sure it would be great. Oh, and the music doesn't loop very well.

The fact that this saves your game, and that there is enough content for a few hours fun, earns big points.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Captured very well the spirit of the good old plataformers.

I didn't like the graphics at first, the combination of a 16-bit environment with blocky characters didn't worked to me at first, but they grew on me during gameplay and they look pretty nice now.

Well done!

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Neat ^^

Nice gameplay. I don`t enjoy the graphics at all, but you could say it is meant to be old style. Ok....but, does it really need the monotone sounds to be old style?

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

Ah, just another good ol' 8-bit platformer, I love these kind. The gameplay was outstanding, I couldn't find any glitches whatsoever. I like how ever you click something out of the screen, it pauses, good job programming to do that. Though there was one thing that confused me, the robotic monsters had blood after killed, now, from what I know, Robots do NOT spit out blood after death, work on that. This game is another classic, brilliant.
Well, I didn't get the story. It just some guy named Robin just shooting mindless zombies with Arrows, there was no upgrades, so it isn't the best 8-bit Flash game I played yet. You could at least put a "Story" button so people will learn the Story of Robin and how the mindless Zombies and robot monsters came to "Pixeland".
Well, it's a decent shop. It should really have some upgrades, so it would be easier to fight the monsters, good game I suppose.
Scores (*drumroll*):
GAMEPLAY:4.9/5----Text: Brilliant Flash 8-bit game, should have a score around 4.60.
SHOPS:3.9/5----Text:Meh, you should put upgrades for the bow next times.
STORY:4.6-----Text:Didn't EXATCLY get it, but, yeah, it's quite good.
OVERALL SCORE:Well, time for some maths. 4.9+3.9+4.6=??? ...Give me a time to work it out....Its.....13.4/20! GREAT!

~~~~End of Review~~~~
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
nice job
Shadowaang911, I felt your review was pretty much spot on.
I dont really think a story was needed tho.
Also you missed something- There were upgrades ;p
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Great game, but incomplete.
First of all, LEVEL 4 STAR (possible SPOILER):
For those that say it is impossible, you are WRONG. You can only get it if you have lvl 2 jumping. Lvl 1, you can't get up there. Lvl 3, you can't fit under the wall that is in front of the block you need to land on. Strange that once you do get in that upper STAR area, that there are several 5pt coins that can only be reached with lvl 3 jumping. If you have completed the game and are upset b/c you can't get lvl 4 star, don't worry, NOTHING HAPPENS IF YOU GET ALL 14 STARS.
Overall, the game is fun. The controls are easy and responsive, and if you don't like the fact that you can't use the arrow keys and Z+X, all i have to say is, original platformers only had one type of controller too and you get used to it.
For what it is meant to be, the graphics are great. The music is a short repetitive track that is nice the first five times thru or so, but then MUST BE MUTED for reasons pertaining to sanity.
Overall, I gave the game 8/10 and 5/5 (why a jump to 5/5, the game's rating is way too low, had to help boost it up closer to 4.00).
Reasons for 8/10 are:
Great game = 10/10
Definite improvement on music possible= -1
Ending is LAME + NO BONUS for getting all the stars? YTF make them a big deal then?!?!? = -1
10 -1 -1 = 8. (Lucky I did not take off 2pts for the lame ending/lack fo star bonus).
Rated 2.5 / 5 stars
not much work was put into this game, the pixel art is horrible! (heck! i can do better)
if you had spent more times on just the graphics, then this game would be perfectly fine!
Rated 0.5 / 5 stars
The control scheme is horrid and the gameplay is only so-so.
Rated 5 / 5 stars
Great game and Complete!!!
Awesome game, fuckin cool power-ups, once again you have proven
pink colored men can jump! Those big guys are tough and shove the
holy hell out of you. Only thing i found wrong with it is no level exit, and
if there is one im blind and dont pay attention. 5/5 10/10 maybe a story next time?
To CaptMorgan you stink buddy BOOYA
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Cool Bro!
Nice game whens the rest of the werewolf thing coming out?
Rated 5 / 5 stars
it was alright =\
i didnt like it in one way because u had to fall down to get coins then u had to go all the way back up but i give u 10\10 =)
Rated 3 / 5 stars
I guess...
It's alright. The gameplay got repetitve. The jump upgrades were more of a nuisance then a help since it made the regular gaps harder to jump. Also, when I jumped on top of the green part of the boundary walls it glitched me inside the map and I had to quit and restart the whole level.
Rated 5 / 5 stars
Good game I liked it alot except one thing...
How in the hell do I get to the star in level 4?
Rated 2.5 / 5 stars
Not the worst...
I'd actually like to know where you can make games like these. opr just games in general for free. I'd liek to just make games as a hobby. maby starting out with a few like yours, Simple but fun. If anyone has any suggestions of where I can make flash games, please message me.
Rated 4 / 5 stars
So and so..
As a platformer its still really good but the tedious jumping can get on your nerves.
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
Listen, you screwed up the controls. Why the heck did you pick K as the jump button of all things? I've only played a few levels of this game but I'm really not getting used to that. A better way might be, arrow keys=move and jump, W=look up, S=look down, D=shoot. You should group the moving (running/jumping) buttons together, and group the shooting/looking buttons separately.
Anyway, I'm sure it's a good game if you can get used to that.
Rated 2.5 / 5 stars
It was ok....
for about 5 minutes. Very repetitive.
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
Solid game aside from one issue.
Can someone tell me the reasoning why firing an arrow costs ten points? That's the only thing that doesn't really make sense about this game. I can't decide if the goal is to get as many or as little points as possible- either goal is achievable because of the arrows costing points when fired.
Rated 1.5 / 5 stars
First of all, the gameplay is very dry and generic. Jump here, shoot this, all the while using a very wonky control scheme. Second of all, the music was horrible. The way it looped makes me think you stole the tune from someone else, tried to loop it, and failed. Third, I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out how to beat a level. It's complete bull spit that you must destroy the "spawner," if that's a word, AND all the enemies. ESPECIALLY when the enemies can fall off platforms and wander retardedly across the map.
3/10. Phail. I want 10 minutes of my life back please.
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
A lot of jumping, a lot of spawns. Pretty good, but very static.
Rated 2.5 / 5 stars
It's alright for killing time but it's gets fairly boring fairly quickly.
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Sweet game
But at the start of level 4 I found a way to get off screen. No way to return though. I guess thats my que to get back to work.
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
Still has glitches
I like the game, its fun and all, but there are still glitches you need to fix.
Rated 0.5 / 5 stars
Serious man change the controls to the arrow keys and Z = Shoot and X = Jump
Rated 5 / 5 stars
Completely Fabulous
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
if this would've been released in the atari/early nintendo era it woulda been a part of my childhood nostalgia. gj!
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
very fun,,, but unbeatable?
at level 4 i can't find a way to jump it impossible or am i missing something?
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Pretty good
I really like this game. The retro style gives it a lot of appeal to me. Good collection aspect and the shop is a neat idea too. you really don't see a shop implimented in games like this that often. I like what you TRIED to do with the control sceme. This plays like an old NES title so I can see why you made the action buttion to the right of the WASD keys - to simulate the layout of a Nintendo controller. I say TRIED to do because it just feels akward and clumsy on a keyboard for some reason. I'm sure I'd get used to it after a while but you may want to make the controls customizable so that those of us used to playing games on a keyboard can do better. Arrow keys and A and S keys would be perfect. Anyway, good job. The game's pretty neat.
Rated 3 / 5 stars
You must change somethings.
Pretty simple game. You must go,shot and jump. Ooh, and collect money... I think lots of people don't like walk with WASD and jump with J. You should add a changable controls or change it to ARROW KEYS and Z,X or A,S... I think this is the best option! I miss some things in this game, one of it it's a RUNNING. I think there's should be more jumping fun like in mario. Not just going and shooting. One thing i like in this game is a SHOP. I'm maniac of RPG and i just like when i can upgrade something :).
I hope you read this review and i hope it's HELPFUL.
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
Great game!
A great game! I only have 1 complaint, the star on level 4 is impossible to get. I tried it with every level jump and you cannot make it. Just remove one block and it'll be fine. I would like to see more upgrades as well. Maybe walking speed? And maybe have more then 5 levels to the skills.
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
That was pretty cool.
Simple yet entertaining.
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Great game, bad controls
At least implement a arrow key Z/X attack/jump control as well.
While i really enjoyed the game, I gave up playing because i couldn't stand the controls...
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
Good game :D
The Characters look like the one from that werewolf game. But i like it :D
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
The minor flaws kill it.
Jump height is always at maximum, rather than the traditional "hold button for max height" makeing short jumps impossible and a number of areas very annoying. It becomes impossible to hit the mook makers a character above the ground because of this.
Arrow upgrade only increases damage, not size. This compounds the above issue.
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
not bad
it wasnt that bad but i did find a bug. if you get to the very top and jump u disapear
Rated 4 / 5 stars
Good game, but 2 issues
Overall, it's a fun game, with a good variety of levels, and enough enemy types to keep it interesting for the amount of time it takes to beat it.
My main complaint is that you all jumps are forced to be at max height... this combined with an upgradable jump leads to a VERY annoying problem: To get the star on level 4, you need jump level 2 - EXACTLY 2. If you're past jump level 2 (which is quite likely since the previous level requires level 3 to get a lot of stuff, including the star), you can't get it unless you delete your save file and completely restart the game.
Also, getting all 14 stars does... nothing. I was expecting an extra level where the hole is on the level select, a super shot, heck, even just a congrats page. It does nothing at all though.
Rated 4 / 5 stars
omg when u shoot a wall u see hitler's mark :O
still, good game.
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
The game is nice, and good lookin' too. Fun at high enough level. But... Something is missing... ... ... Ah, That's it! Customalize controls option!
Rated 3 / 5 stars
kinda good game play but on level 4 I jumped off the side of the wall and got stuck under ground
Rated 4 / 5 stars
level 4 glitch
found a glitch in the game that involves jumping to the top of the left of the screen and jumping past the screen against the left and you'll fall through, you can travel through the environment but you cannot do any damage. Thought it was interesting to mention this.
Rated 2 / 5 stars
its nice but
it has a bad key selection
Rated 2 / 5 stars
OK concept, terrible level design.
As I wrote above, it is a pretty good concept, but the level design is terrible. Jumps frequently require you to jump in an asinine way to avoid the fact that you drop instantly when you hit a block, and you can't minimize your jump height. Combining that with certain jumps that require you to have a specific height... and it's actually impossible to access an area (see level 4's top right area) if you have a high enough jump height, and you can't ever get it if you bought the upgrade. Did you even test the levels after making this game?
Rated 3 / 5 stars
its an ok game but some lvls are messed up
like the people below me they have found glitches and for some reason we cant get some stars is some lvls like lvl 4 and 7. mabye if there was a walk through and an option for key configuration the game would be a lot better.
Rated 3 / 5 stars
need to improve some controls
the height of the jums is always the same! if release the button it stills jumping!
Rated 4 / 5 stars
fun, but
It'd be better if level 4 was possible
Rated 3.5 / 5 stars
Made in Flixel?
The game itself was pretty much a skinned version of the Mode demo that comes with the Flixel library (By Adam Atomic) with preset levels, menus, and some tweaked stuff. Enemy AI for the flying things was also identical to Mode, and the land enemy AI seemed the same as the one from the basic game tutorial found in the help section of the Flixel forums. Seems more of something you made to get used to Flixel and not actually to submit as your own.
Anyway, on to the actual game. Gameplay was very repetitive, as previously mentioned, graphics were sub-par, there was no story, and getting more than one or two jump upgrades was pretty much useless. I would have at least liked to see some more customizable options for the player, like costumes, weapons, etc. However, I <3 Flixel, so I'll give you a 7/10.
This game is relatively simple, you can run, jump, shoot, and aim. The gameplay is good, and the enemies are good. Its extremely easy to pick up on.
While all these pro's may seem good, the game is definetly haulted by its faults. The level design could be better, its very tedious at times to hop a few structures or shoot a few things. It would be nice if you could upgrade a few things ingame like your bow, or arrows, or things of that type. I got bored after the second level, it just seemed stale, no big secret, or goal other then to finish it and get the star.
5(2) = 10 - 4 = 6.
level 1
i beat level 1 and no level 2
Stopped at level 2
HUGE points for a functional and aesthetically pleasing game.
Extremely lacking in functional game design, however.
Difficulty in a game should challenge a player, not frustrate them. Certain jumps were not well designed for the jumping system you used. This is confounded by the 'choice' of getting the star in level 2, or getting the three coins. One could not accomplish both in the same run.
Well built, poorly designed.
level 13 is just.. bleh
it showcases the shortcomings of the mechanics.
monsters should not push you and take control of the movement of your character.
that makes level 13 just.. unbeatable. even with max upgrades
Level 4.
I can't seem to get the star on level 4. Is it possible with full upgrades, or is it necessary to do it with only one or so?
Other than this pitfall, the game's decent. I like it.
Need some serious improvement
Good game concept but it lacks one thing. Controls are bad. Listen to everyones comments and please update with a better control scheme please. I would suggest using the arrow keys for movement/jumping and the space bar for shooting.
wow o.o
good game ^^ only problems where that level 13 was so hard to beat...all i did was stand on one of the pillars and shoot down at the big red guy until he died. the music got old after level 2... i was hoping there would be more music when u go but i was wrong. the final boss was just a flying spawing thing and 2 big red guys which should have atleast switched with level 13 making it a true final level. and finally, upgrades. i don't think the game should just be bassed on ur jump level. i didn't KNOW i needed to upgrade before i started the level which i needed it. soo all and all it atleast deserves a 7.
to MRGamer01
The control scheme you typed out is far worse. Seriously, in this game you need to shoot fast, therefore is space extremely stupid.
Stop whining, it's an awesome game.
I am a big fan of platformer games. I played and got a star on every level except 4 (which I'll explain below).
But this falls short on several levels. First, the control scheme IS bad. It takes quite a while to get used to. You should put the jump key near the move keys (e.g. make jump=w), not way over by the shoot key, and the aim keys should be near the shoot key. Just makes sense.
Second, there does not seem to be any way to get the star on level 4 once you've upgraded your jump too much. I think you need to have only level 1 or 2 jump to get it. Jump upgrades shouldn't make your player _worse_.
Third, towards the end before you've upgraded your shoot sufficiently, enemies push you backwards too much. It's frustrating. Similarly, the columns with invisible solid sections that you can't jump through are a bad idea, they just make moving around more frustrating and random.
Anyway, overall I like platformers and therefore I like this game, but it could be so much better.
Great game I wish there was more like this! Smart idea and very well made. I really liked it. If you make a squeal you should add more stuff to it like enemies, upgrades, etc. If so can't wait!
this game made me go play mario.
this game was great and fun i got up and hooked up my old super nintendo and put some metallica on and started to play mario.
Easy to jump off the screen and not able to return. If you actually play to lvl 13 and beat it you still can't do lvl 14. Impossible to get lvl 4 star (which I assume is what you need to access lvl 14). I was also unable to find the lvl 13 star (granted I only tried once).
Some of you are saying lvl 7 star is also impossible; it isn't. You aren't being careful enough to not destroy certain blocks ;)
Vox Populi, Vox Dei
is it just me or does your character look oddly like the guy in Vox Populi, Vox Dei? I mean maybe its meant 2 be but idk and its not a mario rip off in the desc it says This game is similar to the classic mario style with the added feature of shooting the enemies. meaning that its supposed 2
Its okay...
There have been plenty of reviews complaining about the graphics in this game. Personally I have no problem with the graphics...they are as good as they need to be, no one said this was a next gen console game after all. The gameplay is solid and the upgrade options add an extra quirk to a game of this genre. However difficulty wise it is fairly easy (not necessarily a bad thing), but it offers little replay-ability and sometimes the level layout is just frustrating.... ex: having destructable blocks that serve no purpose. Overall it is not a bad game, but not one I would spend hours playing, nor return to after I have completed it.
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
love it
it would be 10/10 but the jumping upgrade should make so you can do multiply jumps in a row in stead of just higher the same jump
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars
It's good
This game got it all: Character made of less than 10 pixels, check.
Mario like gameplay, check.
You dont have to jump your enemys, check.
They blow up! check.
I'm trying to make one of these games myself, but it is'nt going too well... Im quite the beginner in flash, and I've only been able to edit certains stuff in a tutorial code. I played this game and poof, there goes my self confidence!
But anyway, I think its great. Still not a 10. It was too frustrating mapping on certain parts. But of course, thats my opinion, + I suck at these games...
Good game
this is a good game, i have unlocked everything but can not figure out how to get the level 4 star. WTF??? does anybody know how?
Not bad but improvable
You did a pretty good job on a lot of it but there are some areas that you could have improved upon. The good stuff that I can say has already been said: good game play, nice graphics for what it is, and nice upgrades for example.
The bad things: Like has been said its easy to jump off the screen on some levels and the layout can be frustrating at times. Some of the locations of the stars are bad for their lvl order or just bad.
To Adz21 and others who have problem with lvl 4 star read this especially:
In order to get the lvl 3 star you have to have at least a lvl 3 jump but in order to get the lvl 4 star you have to have a lvl 2 jump. So players are tricked into getting a too high lvl jump to be able to get the lvl 4 star. If you have lvl 1 jump you can't get up the lvl at all and if you have lvl 3 you jump too high so when you're trying to get into the area with the star you hit the lowest block on the left wall so you can't get to the star. With the lvl 2 jump you can get in but its still a pain. Run across the platform and jump right at the very tip of it, do it right and you barely land on the next block and then can easily jump in and go over and get the star but you can't get the coins that are at the very top of that little room area. You'd have to have a lvl 3 or higher which as I said previously won't let you get into the area to start with. A simple fix would be to remove that block that's in the way. Also the max jump is just a bit too short to get into the area approaching from below.
Rated 4 / 5 stars
its ok but,....
the game play,the grapics,the music all that is good and stuff but you should make the controls e-z, like using the arrow keys to move and aim and the space bar to jump,and enter button to shoot
Pro:Puzzler Con:controls are a bit hard
I say that this game is overall, a great game.
Adventure, and puzzler is what I mostly like the best.
Keep it up, up, & up!
This game is addictively fun. It might be the music or the classic fel but what ever it may be it makes this game fun.
You HAVE to kill??
I like the game but I just don't like how you have to kill everything instead of just finding a door to end the level. still great game tho.
