Blockectomy

Author Comments

Shoot falling blocks with the same color ball to remove them. Create a full row of blocks for extra points. If the blocks stack too high, its game over.

READ ME:
The game has many settings, so change them to fit your skill level.
Easy mode is for casual gamers.
If you are an avid gamer with good reaction time, you should be playing on Normal or Hard.
Static speed means that the blocks will not fall faster and point values will not increase over time.

CHANGE LOG:

10) Added preloader in case of server crashes (mine)

9) Edited leaderboard to bypass browser caching so it updates right away.

8) Improved how boxes and balls are handled memory wise. Rather than creating new objects over and over, created a fix number and cycled through those. Less GC.

7) Box drop rate is now framerate based rather than being a timer event in case of FPS drops. Ive noticed variable rates in FPS when using Firefox and I made this change because it is a popular browser.

6) Bumped up the framerate to 60.

5) Fixed keyboard rotation controls to be smooth and reliable.

4) Fixed a bug with Easy mode.

3) Changed easy mode music.

2) I wanted to give users who jump right in a little more feedback on how to play. Inactive blocks that reach the bottom now become highlighted to indicate that something special might happen if you fill the bottom row.

1) Based on user feedback, defaults to "Increasing" speed and "Normal" difficulty rather than "Static" and "Easy".

ORIGIN:
This game is a result of an extra credit assignment from a scripting class and I'm trying to get it portfolio worthy. Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.

EEY niiice!

fun game! i have a great time playing it!

Nice

I played the original and I liked the game to begin with. To be honest, a lot of the changes you made I didn't really notice. I don't mean that you did a bad job on this cause I don't think you did, it's just that I guess I didn't have any problems with lag and other back end things. Also, I didn't play easy mode on the first so I can't exactly tell what bug you fixed or what the previous music was.

Even though you made some changes since I wasn't really affected by anything the game hasn't changed much for me so the scores will remain almost the same. I can't give you a 4.5/5 but I can give you a 9/10.

Nice job on this, you should be proud of yourself, I don't think the score really reflects its value, it's a solid game. I believe it deserves to be somewhere arounds 3.50 - 4.00 but I can't really change that.

pixelshaded responds:

Thank you for your kind words. I think its getting lower scores because the art is very simple. Its not "flashy" enough. I think people have grown to expect more from the visual department than what I can give. Im working with a friend who is a game artist to see if we can't get a nice theme going for it. It'll be interesting to see whether or not the score changes once it has some nice art/animations to enhance the general feel of everything.

Nice

I played 1.0 and liked it.
Nice improvement!

Nice!

I like it. Nice design and good music.
Just change the font(it was kinda boring) and the design of the menu and it will be great!
