I started making flash movies six years ago. I was 12 back then, and since then I just didn't have the patience or commitment to completely finish a flash movie. Finally, I managed to get a movie done to submit it to the internet for the whole world to see. This is my first published flash movie.

It began in march 2009, when me and my friend decided to have a sort of flash contest. We had two weeks to create a flash, submit it to Newgrounds and see who got a higher score. The contest was cancelled as my friend didn't have the time to make flash in the two weeks. This movie turned out to be much bigger than I expected, so I took my time and finished it in a period of six months.

I kind of regret how this movie didn't quite turn out how I originally envisioned. I had a deadline, so I had to cut some corners in the making of this movie. I wanted to make this movie longer, more thrilling and more cinematic than it is.

Yet, I finally did it. I published my first flash, and to me that's all that matters. I hope you enjoy it. :)

Edit 10.9.-09: FRONT PAGE! Friggen' awesome! It's like a dream come true. :D

A week after I first submitted this, I was disappointed for the fact that this movie was so overlooked. It got only 20 reviews. Within a day since Paranormal Creatures got a front page, the amount of reviews was doubled. Great!

To celebrate this, I just submitted an updated version of the movie. It contains only small improvements, no big changes: I reworked some rough looking animations and corrected the mistake where the scratches on the main character's jacket disappeared in some shots.

Thank you for everyone for your support and the constructive critisism. Because of your reviews I now know what I am good at and what I need to improve in my future work. I have a lot of awesome ideas for my next flash. Just stay tuned...

Paranormal Creatures is great but lacks a bit

The story was better than a lot of the animations I've seen recently on Newgrounds so I've got to give you that but the end leaves more to be desired, perhaps a follow up or a continuation would be nice. The animation was considerably good especially since you had two weeks to make it. However, I think the character is a bit unrealistic. I expected someone more boastful and constantly talking to the audience as that's what most ghost hunters do or otherwise they are usually fake but since this guy is real I think he would have more of a personality. The creature was cool and would've made a cool fight scene had he not just quit after getting hit by a stick hard. But I enjoyed the animation so 9/10.

Actually, I didn't have only two weeks to make it. The initial deadline was two weeks but it then I went on and finished it in a period of six months.

I have to disagree what you said about the main character talking to the audience. Is it really necessary for the character to talk to the audience and explain what he's thinking about? Some reviewers here have pointed out that the character's reactions do that just as well.

A good review, anyways.

Good atmosphere, but...

Story: the story is nice, good introduction to it. However, the animation itself really didn't lend itself to well for it. It has an anticlimactic end. Fortunately, it wasn't one of those things where the character happens to have a fire arm or something to fight a monster. Still, having the creature run off after one hard hit isn't much. Perhaps more backstory on what the creature may have been. It could also help if there was more to the reason why it ran, such as a noise or if the guy was an athlete. I'm thinking the latter, but not too sure due to the lack of story detail.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere you managed to create works well. The audio selection and placement went great and truly made this animation worth looking at. It's dark and the viewer can get a sense of how the guy must feel.

Animation: It's a very simple animation, but it does have some nice details. You have a great drawing style. Hell, your alot better at drawing ears than I am. Some of the subtle movement, like the eyes going back and forth, were also well done. Another plus is that the gradiants weren't overused, a problem that many new Flash artists tend to have. Your shading can use some work, but it's not as bad as most people out there. The color selection also works well. About the only problem I see is that the movement is simplistic. Half the time, it looked more like paper doll limbs rather than actual movement. I think after some time, you'll get the movement down well.

Overall: Your definitely on the right track. You know how to set the atmosphere, you don't make any noob mistakes, and I enjoyed it despite the ending. You have great potential that can be reached through improvement.

On a side note, you shouldn't listen to anyone that say you should change in accords to their prefered style. I see a couple reviewers who have done that. Just work and improve in the style (or styles) that you like most. If you keep changing to meet the standards of every critic, you'll find your work becoming bland. Don't ever allow your work to become bland. Keep what you have now and just improve where it is needed.

Overall great, your animating skills need polish.

The use of music and the music itself was pretty good. Not the best but it was alright. Honestly the artwork was pretty good you have a pretty good realistic drawing style.

However the comments really got my hopes up like i would actually be freaked out. From the start of the animation till the end. all i could really think was "wow this is so cheesy"

It's not that the artwork was bad. It's that the animation felt cheesy. He just slides around everywhere everything has a set turning point in which it spins around. It didn't flow naturally. in my opinion it just looked incredibly cheesy. It just looked like you stuck pivots on everything and had a ball with it. Maybe try some frame by frame work and put some real effort into it drawing all the movements. all the movement would flow better and you already have the art skills to do it. So what's stopping you?

I give it a 8(personally) for the great use of music and art skills. But the animation really brought it down for me.

Since it's your first flash however. Nothing more then a 10 for you.
Hope to see better things from you later in the years. We all know you have the skills to do so.

Good luck!
p.s. I'd like to clarify that the animation doesn't move horribly as far as newground flash's go. I just know you can do better.
