UPDATE! ¡¡¡Refresh your buffers!!! Read the reviews and see what I have done :) Thanks for the feedback folks. Because of the change I will have to reset the highscore list. It wont be fair any other way. Sorry.

As I'm learning my way through game history, Asteroids is next on the list. Following the book of Gary Rosenzweig's ActionScript 3.0 Game Programming University.

Every time I'm finished with a game-chapter, I tries to add something new to it. This game is about 500 lines longer then the original book example. All graphic is made by me, and there were no music or soundeffects.

What is the upgrades? Well, the graphic is much more animated in my version. I have added more power ups, made the levels harder (it was only refreshing 4 rocks over and over again), fixed some possible bugs and added a very simple AI that shots.

Hope you enjoy the game. I'm happy for any reply and always look forward to feedback, good or bad.

Critiques are welcome, it will only make me better.

Has potential

It was decent and enjoyable, although you might want to add some code so that the player cant just hammer the fire key and fire as many shots as fast as they can press the button

I did think about it really but after reading about it in all this reviews I will go and fix it. I will give all reviewers an update when I have done some changes.

Not bad...

The idea was nice but the gameplay was REALLY annoying!
When you move your ship it slides like it's on ice and its really hard to get back in control. And theres one little bug that made the game really easy and not interesting after a while: if you hold the right button on your keyboard and than you hold space bar you can level up too easily and than you don't need to move at all and than the game gets really boring and not fun...

cool

just held right arrow + space and made it to lvl 16 almost 17

stian7 responds:

I have to look into that. Did not think about it when I was programming.

Good Job

other than the few problems that i can see; the propulsion system makes the difficult to control, and the ship is very large. together this make the game rather frustrating. once i learned that like sandwich91 said, that you could spin in circles and hold spacebar though, the games difficulty level took a HUGE drop. im not kidding. a little abnormality i saw where that when a rocket first hits a smooth red planet and does nothing at all, it simply disappears. then, on your next hit, it will explode into a fiery inferno. last thing; i dont want to dissapoint you; is the fact that after your ship flies off at the end of a level, if i was holding spacebar before the level ended, i will continue to shoot until the next level begins. all that out of the way, it is better than i could do and is so much better than some games ive seen.

Not bad at all

A good game, but the mechanics could use a little tweak - giving retro rockets would be a great addition, as it would give a massive boost to the control available to the player - reverse is such a benefit, especially if the asteroids are flying around and backing you into a corner.

I think that the Physics isn't quite there, as the vehicle would never truly stop, due to the friction in space (or lack thereof) and it falls off too quickly for my liking. The drawing is decent and the animation isn't bad, with the exception of the explosions, which I thought brought the piece down a little. More work on them would certainly be beneficial to the project.

stian7 responds:

That...is not a bad idea. A good addition to the original game. Thank you.

I don't know if I will go all space real, then it would been no sound effects at all ;)
