Hi! This is my first submission to Newgrounds through the Flash Portal :)

I'm sorry it's not an animation ;_; A lot of people online have asked me about the way I color my art, so I just wanted to be helpful :) It's geared toward Beginners with some more "advanced" techniques.

This covers a Cel-Shade Airbrush style that I use (Mostly for my art, and I would use it to color Comic Books too), Actions, Layers, Masks, Flats, Backgrounds and Shading.

Edit: Ohmigosh ;_; Thanks for all the wonderful reviews and votes and the two awards, guys ;_; I'm glad so many of you found this helpful!! :) :)

EDIT 2 (Thank you zuipit!): Here's a link to the lineart to follow along with, Just look for the download button if you're unfamiliar with DeviantArt, then hit "Save As" on your browser :) (For some reason whenever I try to make this into a link it's messing up :/ Just erase any spaces in between)

Brilliant mate!

I've seen plenty a tutorial, but this is easily one of the best. You go through, step by step, and explain things as if the user didn't know anything about photoshop, which is how most tutorials should be done.

Props for the choice of image too, i'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. Can't wait for Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days.

Thanks very much :D :D

if only...

if only you just have made a tutorial for flash!
it would be great if you made a tutorial that is just as good as this for flash.
although, I just noticed that you do more manga (not animation).
anyway, congratulations on making such a good tutorial ( and drawing!). I have personally played Kingdom Hearts 2 and it's really fun :3

Wavechan responds:

Thanks :D And yeah, I'm more a manga artist :) I really like doing animation on the side though, if only to see my characters come to life since they'll probably never be a real anime in the future XD

Really informative! Really good!

A really good tutorial, and you definitely tought me how to use Actions, I never knew they existed, making things a whole lot easier, Thank you! I'm going to work on my own simple version, just to get used to this. I use Macromedia fireworks 8, but have used photoshop in the past, come to think of it, I think fireworks has a similar function for like actions. Anyways, great tutorial, and I give it a 10 out of 10, and a 5 out of 5.

Wavechan responds:

Thanks!! :D Actions are an incredible time saver! I started using them for everything I could when I was doing big projects :) You just have to be very careful what you record... Because they do record almost everything! @_@

i wish it werent fan art though :( but any way nice way of doing things, except for a few things, you and i use photoshop very differently. well plus ii rarely scan. good picture tho!

Wavechan responds:

I consider myself a fanartist, I guess, over all else :) Though I'm trying to shift into my original art now. It was kind of disappointing way back then when I would draw original characters and no one would even look at them, so I kinna just gave up on that. Now, I'm gearing toward the opposite...

Yeah, I think a lot of colorists all do things different. :) I once had to share a coloring project with this one guy, and he had NO idea how my PSD/TIF files were set up or how I could even color like that XD I don't scan much either, I've been inking Digitally for the most part, but there's still a lot of people who do, so I added that in. :)

Love it! (And a nice choice of a pic, too! ^^) Everything about this flows, giving the watcher complete control over where they arte going. The instructions are simple and concise, and the lttle chibi brings it all home. Awesome work!!!

Thanks very much :D!!
