Ok guys, here is yet another college animation project done in Flash~!

Angel Whisper :: Sasayaki no Tenshi

This is an idea that I've had for sooo long, even since I was little it was a daydream I always had, even.

I'm honestly not very happy with the way this turned out because I was pressed for time and super stressed to meet the deadline for my 2D animation class. I apologize for the poor BG audio quality-- I tried all I could to fix it, even asked my teacher for help, but nothing worked. =/

It is possible that I might go back to this idea at a later time and completely remaster it with both new animation and better quality audio. But if I do, it won't be for a long time thanks to other college work ahead. So for now, this is the finished version.

It's also possible that I could turn this into a series if I remaster it. Or at least make it into some sort of short manga in my free time later on. If I do, I'll probably come back here and edit this description with more information.

Hmm. I'm not sure what else to say. Maybe some trivia? Lol.

Koujou is both modeled after and voiced by my boyfriend IRL. Kirika's personality is somewhat based on my own, and her voice is done by me-- so any romance between these two is as genuine as it gets in an animation, right? ^^;

Okay, enough of my rambling. I hope that someone out there can enjoy this, even though it looks a bit rough. *Bows*

Excellent ^,^

I'd say the reviewer below me summed up everything I wanted to say and more (loved the art, voices, characters, disliked the animation).

I will say that I would really like to see this expanded and polished up. I look forward to what you could do with a bit more experience. :D

Thank you very much ^_^

Deserves a halo

Hello there. It's the third flash you've made, so welcome back. I was excited to view this. Judging by your previous scores, title and your avatar I knew it wouldn't be a crappy stickman animation. Honestly the feelings are ambivalent since I concentrate on reviewing objectively.

The flash is about a maladaptive girl who is supposedly killed by a dark angel. Whether she actually dies or not is questionable but she turns into an angel and flies of with him. The flash lasted a fair amount of time. I really liked the character design and their clothing; the setting was also beautiful. The story fits well although you could have added more in terms of a literal storyline {things making precise sense}. Poetic license is pleasing and welcome, but it is also worth being able to project to the audience exactly what is happening.

Graphically I was expecting something amazing. I was slightly let down. It was barely better than mediocre in terms of animation. The walking of the dark angel was dreadful and it looked like the computer is struggling to play it; what is animated is extremely detached from the boundaries of realism.

There were, however, a lot of details. You've got posters, disco lights, red aerials on rooftops and grey charring on the grey roof plus some good looking angel wings. The characters clothing is colourful and articulate. You've got stars, moons etc - a lot is there. You've put effort into this and it is simply, pretty, although the drawing is not perfect. The character's mouths do not move in time to speech though.

And what a delight - a truly magnificent menu!* Even the best flashes and movies would struggle to make theirs as good as yours.

Now for sound. I see you've already received some negative criticism about your voiceovers. I've noticed it is only your voice Alexis that seems to have background distortion. Patrick Charland's voice seems unblemished. If you weren't using the same microphone considering using, or buying, a model equivalent to his. The voices however are sweet, and relevant, but they immediately reduce the volume of the backing music. You've used a few tracks and they all work well. The audio suits the movie making it feel very real. However you should add considerably more sound effects.

My conclusion. The flash wasn't short, but at many points it felt stretched and pulled. It is better to create a short animation instead of a long animation which is {frame by frame} slow. I would safely estimate that you're an artist rather than an animator, but you need to be good at both to really buff up your flashes. I think you excel at character development and colourful designs so keep exploiting your talents and learn to animate - you'll be doing fantastically.

*Extra and Lyrics should have a message saying another window will open up, but chill, it would be very unfair to be penalised for it.

Mikura responds:

Wow! What a well-thought out review, thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

You are correct in assuming that I'm more of an artist than an animation at this point, I want to get better at animating bit I'm still in the process of learning and gaining experience. ^_^

I would have loved to get more details from the plot across.. and I certainly will if I ever re-make this. The class's deadline caused me to rush-- this took me way less time then it should have in my opinion and I know that it needs more effort and seamless animation to make it better.

As for plot she doesn't die, I didn't get to add it, but her wings grow in as she falls allowing her to escape death by flying/hovering to the ground rather than hitting it head on. Koujou, the dark angel, was supposed to know this beforehand, hence why he didn't hesitate to push her over. He wanted to awaken her.

The walking animation was a nightmare for me since not only was it my first attempt ever at a walk cycle, but I had a very, very short amount of time to do it in which made it even more frustrating. That is by far my least favorite animation in this movie.

I'm happy that you liked my details and title menu! ^_^ Two of my personal favorite parts of this piece.

That's odd that it ended up sounding that way, because we both used the same microphone on the same settings and recorded with the same programs. He came over to do the recordings from my computer to ensure similar quality. Well, my audio editing class is next semester, so hopefully I will learn a lot more about quality soon and I can practice voice acting as well. I'm glad you liked the music chosen, though, I tried hard to set the mood in each scene.

I mostly just tried to meet my instructor's requirements this time, thinking that I could just go back and make it more how I had envisioned at a later time. But I thank you very much for your time and your critique! I'll take your advice to heart and keep practicing, because I know that I can't improve without doing so. I'm the type that learns best from experience and trying things on my own.

pretty good

animation - (+9)

audio -(+7)

story -(+6)

feel (how it makes me feel) -(+5)

The plot is quite strange

I hope I don't sound too critical but the whole, "I dont fit in" thing is kind of cliche, and the Angel wings came out of nowhere. O_o It was pretty short, but strange enough to keep my attention :)

Mikura responds:

Your not being too critical, don't worry. I had to keep the plot super short to fit in with my college deadlines, so I had to leave a lot of things out. And the scene with the wings wasn't the way I had hoped because I ran out of time, too. Hopefully I'll be able to expand on this idea more in the future. ^^

Nice............

Im looking forward to the next episode.
