A Great Big Tree

EDIT: Thanks a bunch for the feature in the Treasure Hunt!

The idea for this movie came to me in a flash (pardon the pun), and I knew I had to make it. Don't ask me what this means. I know, but I can't really explain. I know that it's not an environmental message, though.

Also, Firth makes some pretty amazing music, as well as movies. Go check his shit out.

Thought provoking

It was a very simple premise but it left me thinking about so many things. The music set a nice tone but it never over powered the visuals.

Thanks. I'm glad it succeeds in being thought provoking ;)

calming and interesting

I really liked the peacefulness I got out of watching this. The timing and the drawings were enchanting enough, and I even liked your choice of colors. All subdued, and I noticed that the trunk was kinda reddish, which for me, kinda reminded me of meat for some reason, so I slightly thought of pain, although the way the tree was talking, there wasn't any pain. I got a sense of some deep patience from this, and a sort of acceptance from a very humble tree. The music was very fitting too, so overrall, pretty great job with this. Worth watching.

Yeah, I wanted the trunk to look like flesh, and I think that only enhances the patience of the tree even more. You know, even though he's suffering, he's still thinking semi-positive.

Thanks for the kind words :)

i don't know, but anything is this video telling me
anything like repeating of the life or so.. can't say what im thinking about it.
however this was nicely animated and the music fits to 100%

P.S. i love fiths stuff

Hehe, thanks :)

David Firthesque movie at its best

It is obvious that you have been inspired greatly, both in music, story telling and animation, by David Firth. The music, as you say, is made by the master, which makes the movie all the more enjoyable, but as with all things, the original master is always better than the ones that come after him :) It was a great movie, but I can't help but get the feeling that it would have been a 5/10 pointer if it had been David Firth doing the storytelling and animation as well. Some day you might be shuffling with David Firth over the title "worlds most artistic flash artist," but you're not there yet ;P

idiot-monarch responds:

Yeah, Firth is definitely a huge inspiration. Obviously, the movie would be better if he had made it (I think that applies to any movie, really :P ), but being compared to him (even if he comes out on top) means a lot.

Thanks :)

two problems

one people sit on stumps and two i highly doubt that tree will grow again unless it is magic, once its down its down, mayby another tree will be planted in its place, but it will not be the same tree

idiot-monarch responds:

Valid arguments, but a bit besides the point of the movie. This works better than making a movie about a lizard and it's tail, or, God forbid, a human.
