Blobie

Earth's star, the Sun is dying. As a god, they look to you for salvation.

Blobie is an interactive space shooter twist. Instead of shooting things, you simply run into them... with the Sun! You play as a god in charge of saving Earth's star, the Sun. To do this, you must continually crash the Sun into random matter floating about outer space to make it grow! Watch out though, as not all matter is created equally... some might be your downfall.

Although there is an in-game overview of the game, here are some highlights:
- Use the mouse to command the Sun around outer space
- Crash into asteroids to build up size, and get a few points too!
- Avoid Space Ice; it will make you shrink... because it is cold.
- Meteors are few and far between, but they offer a lot of points for collecting them.
- Pressing and holding the Left Mouse Button allows you to directly control the sun, for a cost.
- Press P to pause, Q to quit, or M to mute the music

Fun but...

Its fun but seriously, science phail.
first off, all space debris that isnt heated by the sun is the same temperature (absolute zeroish), be it ice, rock, or whatever.
2nd, even if it was just at like 70, most rocks don't got what stars need.
3rd, meteors are only hot when they enter the earths atmosphere.
4. where the hell IS earth during this cosmic fuck-fest?

-3 points because its a game, and doesnt need to be real

this game was REALLY fun. next time, reduce the number of ice bits and use a different graphic, increase the damage done by the ice bits. WAY increase the amount the debris feeds the sun. and make an option to kill all debree under a certain size (for crappy computers [like mine])

well done man. hope for a sequel

sandfire1on1 responds:

Haha. Yeah, I know. But if you're looking for a realistic game, I'm sure you'll find plenty out there :] Think of it this way: the makers of RTS games render buildings as maybe 5-10 times as big as a man. Maybe it makes more sense for a game to have ice, something that puts out fire, as an obstacle and debris, something that burns, as a growth mechanic.

Thanks for the review. It was entertaining, and I'm glad that you were entertained yourself! TBH, there WILL be a sequel, so keep your eyes open in the next coming month or so, and in the meantime check out Pea Ski 2 - it's due for release within the week.

Hmmmm...

This is a nice game, unfortunatly its not a very good genre.

What i mean is the "collect as many of these as you can and avoid these" type of games where the developers think "wait a minute its to easy" "I know!!!! ill make it so the more they collect and the better they do, ill punish them by making the game harder by making their object bigger!" "GENIUS!"

Well unfortunatly not, there can never be a proper ending as the player is stuck in some kind of equillibrium as the bigger they get, the more they shrink, so they get bigger, then smaller, and bigger, smaller, bigger, smaller, bigger and so on and so on..... it gets boring quickly.
The hold the mouse down to dodge thing is a neat idea, but kind of pointless because you only use it to avoid shrinking but using it shrinks you down anyway!
It would be better if there was a power bar which drained as you clicked but was replenished by the comets...
Just an idea.

I would like to offer advice on how to make this game better for a sequel, unfortunetly i cant think of any as this type of game just dosent work for me.

But you had a good stab at it. well done ;D

sandfire1on1 responds:

I share your concerns, but I stand intrepid in the face of such a position :]

Concerning the control power, I have a special idea for Blobie 2 that will feel more realistic and fluid.

to much ice>.<

i can't handle it the thing grows to slow to get 100% and their to many ice things coming when i get close to 100% and they don't stop even after i drop to almost dead sun

sandfire1on1 responds:

well, the more massive you are, the greater the gravitational pull. You'll find that the closer they are, the smaller they are, and the larger you are, the quicker they'll respond.

Thanks for the score, and hope you enjoyed this and future titles!

ermh

ice takes away to much and meteors should be bigger or more. and i don't think that the precentage should sink so fast

Needs balance

You lose too much when you hit ice and gain too little for getting meteors and debris.
