Cause & Effect is my first submission to Newgrounds.

It's a short story about a man who wakes up in an alley not knowing who he is or how he got there. He soon finds himself in a wave of murder, mystery and mayhem during his search for a man by the name of Andrew Beckett.

The game is still currently in development and I was hoping to get a little bit of feedback as I continue to work on it.

There's no sound for now but this may be included into the final game if people feel it is needed.

Very Great Thus Far

This is shaping up very nicely man. You've done awesome with the artwork to give it a gritty noir feel. Reminds me a bit of ol' NES game Deja Vu, but with some stunning eye candy.

I think most quirks have been mentioned, but I'll give it a whirl. Sometimes the custom cursors/inventory items don't load. I restarted the game, and everything worked fine the second go.

The pint isn't obtainable, unless that's the end of the demo, in which case disregard.

The only improvements I can possibly think of would maybe be diversify the dialogue a bit. For instance don't have them repeat conversations (unless perhaps they're still clue oriented, like the barkeep mentioning his notepad).

For instance when asking about the battery, she mentions her toys. A second inquiry might go, "Sorry sugar. Like I said, I don't have any on me. And even if I did, I don't think you need D batteries. *winks*" A third inquiry might result in: *blush* You're to embaressed to make any more inquiries. She clearly doesn't have any.

Just something to emerse yourself in this amazing work. Nothing kills a sense of emersion than having repeated dialogue if it can be avoided. But other than those quirks... just.. wow... keep up the outstanding work.

Alright for a work-in-progress

The one thing technical difficulty I had was that the hand/arrow keys & labels for actions did not show up for the first few minutes of playing, which made it rather difficult to go from one 'page' to another...
(I don't know if the problem was within the game or my computer, but I /have/ experienced problems before on newgrounds because of Firefox)

I'm guessing that trying to figure out the combination/ break the lock on the cellar is where you left off? Or have I just not figured out how to get past that part?
(I'm also presuming that any 'save game' option won't be available till the final game)

And yeah, some music for the background would probably be a good idea to add by the end.

-On a more positive note, I found the dirty old drunk's singing highly amusing.
I don't think there really is any more to say till more is added to the game, other than this has the potential to be quite interesting. (I've given it a 6/10 & a 3/5)

Up to the lock is only half of the demo, You might have got the same problem as a few others where the game wouldn't load properly. I think it should be working ok now though! Thanks!

Potential.

I love point and click games. For the actual game, explain what each icon at the bottom of the screen is. Some of the hands pointing to areas you can visit were almost totally off screen. There's a lot of scenery considering you used actual photos, this makes it difficult to know what to click or investigate, some kind of change in the arrow to indicate something of interest would do everyone well. I'm looking forward to the actual game, and sound!

Thanks for the input, I did actually include a custom cursor to the game which changes however, the original game file was corrupt and didn't load properly stopping this feature. I've uploaded a new version which should fix this problem.
