Hey newgrounds! Here's my first flash submission, created through Kongregate's shootorials. I know it's not all that complex, but I did draw everything myself, so if you want to leave a helpful comment please comment on something like the art or general mechanics. I would be SO HAPPY to respond to any comment you leave.

Please keep in mind that this is my first work! Thanks for viewing.

Instructions: Arrow Keys to move, Space Bar to shoot

Version 2.0 is up now...I've taken peoples' advice and included sounds, upgradeable weapons, and increasing waves of difficulty. I love the feedback I've been getting, so please keep it coming and I promise I'll respond!

Although my score of 2,000 may not be as Epic, my excursion through the world of Epic Excursion was increadable. 11 Starts if you update it with Sound, weapons, and the other stuff.

Syncopated responds:

Haha probably the nicest review I've gotten so far...thank you very much! Actually, I decided to keep working on this game because of positive feedback, and I have included sounds, weapons that level up with experience, and increasing waves of difficulty. I can't wait to hear what people have to say about it! Just needs a little more polish...

I am SO HAPPY to comment!

Dude, you have no idea how excited I was to try this game out after we talked about it. I made this Newgrounds account for the sole purpose of leaving this comment. I was a little crestfallen when I found the controls to be the arrow keys, seeing as my down arrow is broken, but that's not the point because I still enjoyed playing for as long as I could (until I hit the top of the screen). If there's any way I could help you out, just ask and I'd love to do something - I can do a little graphic design and maybe we could work on a soundtrack. Anyway, the game was great and I can't wait to see the revised version, plus all the other games you'll be making in the future. All the best, The Sash

Syncopated responds:

Loll ah its good to have friends...haha having wasd keys control the ship was suggested to me, so I might actually implement that in the future. And yes, the latest version actually has sound, experience levels, different boss attacks, and increasing degrees of difficulty so it should be a little more playable. I very well may need that help at some point!

I don't think you get the meaning of the word epic

-1 no sound
-1 repetitive gameplay, same enemies
-1 no menu screen, instructions screen, options menu, etc.
-1 enemy bullets move at an awkward speed, making dodging nearly impossible
-1 powerups for nuke appear when no one is on the screen, so they are useless
-1 no weapons powerups

Good start, but I wouldn't have even submitted if I were you until there was at least a menu and sound.

Syncopated responds:

Haha I was just kidding around with the word epic there...I understand that this is a game in early stages. In terms of each of your comments, I think I've responded to them elsewhere, but I'll do it again here briefly cause I like responding and I appreciate your review. Certainly needs sound, but I'm gonna need to find help on how to do that first. Yes, the content is definitely a little on the slim side; this was just a first go though. Menu and instructions would be nice as well...was having trouble with intro but definitely needs to be patched up there. I wasn't aware of this bullet movement problem actually...and others have said dodging bullets is easy so I'll need more input on this. I've addressed the nuke problem...they should be savable. And I don't know if weapon powerups are a necessity, but some sort of upgrade system at least definitely is and it's in the works.

Actually good comments all around, so thanks for the input!

Easy game, but on the right track

I had a fun time playing this game, but with the lack of sound, or real challenge, its only a good time waster currently. I know it is your first flash, and i can't wait to see what you come up with next. Good luck man, good flash.

Hey I appreciate your well-reasoned review. Definitely needs sound and I agree it's very easy. I'll be sure to live up to your expectations and put better stuff out soon!

Juuuust two critics awaiting you...

The only things i found unnerving was the Health power-up which didnt seem to give much, and also the nuke, which doesnt help much often...anyways you tried, and successed awesomely for your first try,I couldnt have done better as a beginner,so cheers, heres a ten and a five.

Syncopated responds:

Hey thanks a lot for your comments! It's weird...I've been hearing that the health is useless cause the game is too easy and also that it doesn't heal enough. I'd appreciate more input on the topic! And yes, I've been hearing that about the nuke. I think it would be better if you could save them, rather than blowing it right away. I'll be sure to put out better stuff in the future!
