EDIT 1/21/09: This became my first submission to earn me an NG award; the Daily 3rd!

EDIT 1/22/09: This became my first submission to become front paged!

EDIT 7/7/09: Updated the recovered .swf with above default audio compression. You'll be glad to know I don't record my voice through that hissing headset microphone anymore, but at least the quality of the sound has been raised a bit.

If you're interested about the "making-of" of ZoA, I suggest you start here on my News Blogs.

I warn you though...it's a LOT of reading...

If you're just interested about how I got the idea to make ZoA, just read this one!

Not a lot of reading!
It should go without saying that if you haven't played "Zone of the Enders" you're probably not going to get it. If you're one of the handful that have played this underrated and very fun mech game, by all means! WATCH THIS!

If not, though, I'd recommend you at least open a new tab to a "video viewing websitelikeyoutube" and watch the opening CGI cutscene or something.

That being said, welcome to my second flash submission ever!
The feedback I've received from you guys has been incredible; I love the variety of tastes this community has, and there's many keen eyes watching for even the tiniest details.

After responding to pages upon pages of reviews, I know what I'm going to do in the future. Thank you Newgrounds!

As for the continuation, I've decided that I'm not going to be making another "Awesome" parody, or style my future animations like any of the "Awesome" flashes again. I'm glad this flash could get into the Awesome collection, but this flash will be my only contribution to it.

Currently, I'm waiting for the release of the Art Portal so that I can pick up where this flash left off, and make a comedy web-comic exclusive to NG. If it's well received, I'll go ahead and animate key scenes to the storyline (like Boss fights, what happens to Celvice, the ending, etc)

Based on how the animated portions of the web-comic are received will determine wether or not I continue with the project into the 2nd Runner timeline. In other words, I wouldn't mind doing it, and it'll please the fans, but if it comes down to it, I have other projects that take priority.

I guess we'll see how it goes...but expect the continuation of ZOA when the Art Portal launches! :D

More to come in '09!

"Awesome" just isn't so awesome anymore.

A lot of people are voting you up just because it's another "Awesome", but the whole thing is a bit played out. The voice acting is bad and there's way too much puffing on the mic. The art is about what one expects from an "Awesome" title.

But that's exactly the problem, isn't it? It's "just another 'Awesome' title." Nothing new and interesting, nothing that marks it as your own work. It's great that you wanted to pay tribute to a series you enjoy and all, but the best thing you could possibly do for the Flash community at large is bring in your own, personal, unique style.

You've obviously got the artistic and animation ability, and that's why I voted as high as I did, so why not show us what you can do when you're playing by 'your' rules, and not those of another Flash animator?

Let's see some of Phobotech's identity come through in his work.

That's the plan! :D

300 reviews later, I needed one like this to confirm my own speculation; I actually thought about scrapping ZOA halfway through altogether and start fresh on something else.

But I NEEDED this feedback, and I NEEDED to actually complete something for once. Hell, even my first flash test was truly half-assed, but I got some lee-way on that even because it was my first.

You should check out my News Posts and tell me your thoughts on some of my future projects there. It's my goal to bring great things to the Art and Flash Portal of NG.

Thanks for the honesty in the review!

Funny, but...Well...You know.

I'm not saying the animation was bad, I just simply think an entire spoof based off of Egoraptor's style is just plain unoriginal. Yes, his jokes are funny, and yes it's an easy style to imitate when it's been put out there- but you should make things with your own sense of humor and creative mind. Now, I have seen some good Egoraptor '-~TRIBUTES~-' where some of his animator friends poke fun at him about deadlines and that jazz, but like I said, you should try making some of your own stuff.

Besides that, I think it was a pretty good animation ^^.

Phobotech responds:

Halfway through working on ZOA I wanted to scrap it all because it wasn't an original idea, and usually I'm the one that gets sick of unoriginality.

But I kept going because I needed to. I needed to actually FINISH something, and even though it's not my game, and named after someone else's style of parodying, I'm glad I did it.

Zone of the Awesome is a test disguised as a tribute to Egoraptor (because I'm a fan) and a parody to my first PS2 game (also because I'm a fan) The test worked, it exceeded my expectations by MILES (I was happy when it got a higher score than my shitty flash test...I didn't ask for all this! lol)

Regardless, though, in your position, I would've probably been saying the same thing. Flashes doused in Awesome-Sauce should be left to Egoraptor.

...But I just can't help myself. :)

I'm glad you thought it was a pretty good animation, and thanks for the review!

This is pretty well animated . But the sound truly sucks. And just the fact that you stole someone elses style in both appearence and sound makes me sick.
I mean fucking make your own style.
Other then that. Well made.
Don't stop making movies. Just stop fucking imitating shit.

Phobotech responds:

I dont liek the word steal so much as I'm pauying tribtute to Egoraprtos wrok.

I mean, although I was even ashame dabout it being an unoriganl project to begin with, it's not like I went out of my way to STEAL from Egoraptor...I thoght I would just contirebut my second animation to the "awesome coleltcion" just liek Chris Oneill did GTA, and HotidiigiyDemon di dAwesome Racer.

I mean, hell yes, I WANT to make my own style...but thsi comes first...like I said int eh Authougrs Commetns , this sthing was a test. .;....a might succesfflul one at that.....

My future projects will bef ocusing on fndng my own style, an dI had makde apromise to mysel f that I would NEVER make an Awesome Parody ever again....so THAT's ONE LESS THING you have to wrory about! lol

Thakns for the review!

Actually, it's not cool anymore when other people do "awesome" stuff, leave it to egoraptor and use your skills in something original.

Some animation parts weren't bad tho.

Phobotech responds:

Duely noted that I probably should have detached myself from the "awesome" sub-genre, but all in all it was a good exercise. I'm glad I surprised you!

Okay, you got your art down. That's cool. Just go on that. Comedy isn't your thing. Good flash animation, and good drawing talent... The funniness? Nowhere near egoraptor material. :/

Make serious movies. I'd bet they'd be worth watching.

Phobotech responds:

I'm never doing an Awesome parody again, but I will never give up on comedy. Tell me Comedy isn't my thing on my next funny flash, and we'll take it from there. :P
