I was doing my JD/MBA during the mortgage-backed security crisis. When Lehman went under, I was in my Securities class and my Professor, who was a former trader, got a text. He stared at it, went pale, and turned on the classroom TV. We all watched in horror as our job prospects evaporated. It drew an eerie parallel to when I was in high school on 9/11 and when my political science teacher rolled in a TV and we all felt any notion of being "safe" evaporate.

When I was near graduation, I had done over 100 job applications - not just sending out resumes, but a 100+ applications as I counted the cover letters. I was lucky enough to be employed by my business school running a research facility on grant. Many of my classmates were not as lucky. I didn't have much faith in Capitalism, but I thought if you were smart enough, had the right degrees, built a good network, and worked hard that you could succeed. All that was shattered during that crisis. The cynicism in a number of my animations reflect someone who had to be bombarded with crisis in their youth until they started becoming numb to it. As I watch things unfold across the globe today, I accept that the global system will inevitably fail to a point of non-recovery and that it will happen in my lifetime.
