Castlevania RoR: Alucard vs Richter

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Rhapsody of Ruin, a semi-canonical story based on the two main characters of CastleVania SOTN (PSX Version), mostly focusing on an over elaborate sprite fight as opposed to actual story telling.

I hope fans of the game enjoy this flash - It's definitely not perfect but I'm still very proud. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who has supported this movie over the years!

Fucking amazing. I applaud such skills. I would rat ten out of five if I could.

You're from Galway? I'm from Roscommon! Hi!!!

Ok seriously, I'll get back to the review. I never actually played SoTN but still found this an exciting flash movie. The music and sound effects added to the excitement of the battle. I especially love the song that plays at the beginning of the fight. The way you actually took out dialogue from the game and put in in seamlessly was pretty good. In fact, there's only one thing I found wrong with the whole animation...

That ending. At the risk of sounding like a certain previous reviewer, I did not like the cliff-hanger. I like cliff-hangers in general, but the one thing I will hate with a passion until the day I die is cliff-hangers with NO SEQUEL. I have enough of that with sonic RPG, super mario bros z and Final Fantasy Sonic X. But apart from that one thing, this is a great video. At least you're going out with a bang.

Thanks for the review - Nice to know not everyone has to be a SOTN fan to enjoy the movie.

Unfortunately I can only say what I've said before. When I first made this, I had plotted out the ending so that the viewer could decide between four different conclusions (Select their own ending) but because the movie was so huge I had to shred that all out and ended up going with the "leave it open so I could possibly follow it with a sequel" approach.

The way I see it is, yes, it may not sit well with some people - But people are free to make up their own mind about how it may end - Ontop of that it's also closer to the game in that the Alucard/Richter fight is not concluded, so from that point onward it could go back to the game and have the player play the rest.

Nice. Very smooth animation, music was fitting and the sound clips were perfectly in-sinc. A little on the short side, but other than that it was really good.

Thank you very much - I would have made it longer but the filesize was getting way too big due to my poor audio compression and by using my own photoshopping work exported and high quality (ie. big files).
