Hi everyone,

Welcome to Rhapsody of Ruin, a semi-canonical story based on the two main characters of CastleVania SOTN (PSX Version), mostly focusing on an over elaborate sprite fight as opposed to actual story telling.

I hope fans of the game enjoy this flash - It's definitely not perfect but I'm still very proud. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who has supported this movie over the years!

I don't have words to describe such video. this is brilliant...keep going like that men. by the way, all this was done in MFlash right?

Program called "SwIsH", very old, similar to Macromedia but much older.

Great Work

Awesome fighting and speed and it does not fuck with the story b/c they actually did fight. This is my favorite Castlevania and if the actual fight was anywhere this badass it would have been my favorite game. Great work.

Glad to see another CVania fan isn't displeased with the animation - Thanks for the review.

I made a New Grounds account only for this

I have never felt the need or want to create a NewGrounds account but I watched this...this...masterpiece and I had to comment!

You used the sprites in such a fluid way they kept commenting the next sprites to be used and it kept going like that through the whole video! It seemed so clean and you didn't use some sort of voice emulator to morph the voices to say different things-instead you used what was actually said and it was pieced together so perfectly!

With this account it being my first and only I will not mark a game or video I like a 10 because I liked it. I only marked this a ten because it inspired me to make an account! Just remember, this is probably the only ten you'll see from me for a while!

I love you man! <3

As always I'm very flattered - When I uploaded this movie I expected it to fail miserably but going on three years now (since it was uploaded) it's still nice to be pleasantly suprised - Really appreciate your vote and thank you very much for making the account to do so.

holy crap!

100x better than any cutscene from any official Castlevania game, ever.

Really good job

It is hard to compete with sprites used in flashes like VG Exiles, SF vs MK, Super Mario Bros Z, and sprite battles. The castlevania sprites to this date are still hard to work with for epic battles. However, I found that your movie was very enjoyable and really expanded from the simple punch kick punch kick. The movie is quick but it is not anything to score low on. The quality and care is there, and I enjoyed it. The fans of the Castlevania series should definitely check this out. Everyone else, it is worth the time to watch it, though the battle might not hold as much punch as fans who know the history will have.

RopeDrink responds:

Nice review, good to see people take note of the fact that CV Sprites aren't exactly all that versatile unlike the Capcom sprites (SFvMK/Exiles etc) where characters have a lot of moveset animations. I just wanted to work with the little I had and try to expand on it without tarring the main-plot or the characters too much - Sure, some of the moves are OTT but sadly that's how it had to be to make Alucard/Richter 'do something different' and be noticeable.

I'm still, to this day, shocked at how well recieved this movie has been - I was expecting die-hard fans or just passers by to pretty much hate on this project when we have superior videos like SFvMK 3 by (the inspiration to this movie) Proxicide and the very solid VG Exiles.

Makes me very proud and grateful and I'm glad people haven't been too dissapointed by this.
