Hi everyone. This is my first-ever completed film, made for Newgrounds' Christmas 2008 collection.

It is about a young boy who dreams of journeying in Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve.

This might be a little soft-toned for Newgrounds, but I hope that some of you will appreciate it anyway. It took me about a year of intermittent work.

Some of the scenes are quite dark, so it is best viewed in dim or no light. Oh, and you probably need a fast computer for it to play smoothly...

Happy holidays!

=) Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! very nice animation, the softness made it all the better. I have to say, the scarecrow was a bit scary if you really think about it. The ending made it all better.

I love this kind of material wich focuses on atmosphere and setting etc.
I also LOVED the art style and it was really well put into flash.
The music fitted right in aswell.

I'm glad you took in the consideration of taking lessons in learning completely intricate FLASH illusions (couldn't word that properly), but it saddens me that the reviews under me have NOT gotten the gist of your short.
It's cute, the little boy has a wondrous dream of riding on a magic sleigh but all goes hectic when he doubts that Santa exists; only a personal visitation from Santa Claus assures him that he exists.

Also, your pastel skills are amazing.

Well, you got the story. :)

You perhaps missed a somewhat subtle element; the person who visited him at the end is not necessarily Santa, but is definitely someone dressed in Santa's costume. Perhaps it is Santa, or perhaps his father. There is no fantasy in real life, unless the imagination makes it; sometimes a glimpse is just as powerful.

P.S. It's not actually pastel; it was made in ArtRage with the standard paintbrush tool, but with certain settings that make it look like pastel. There's a topic on the ArtRage forums where I describe it.
P.P.S. I took no lessons as such, just read some tutorials and the help files that came with Flash.

I liked it a lot

I'm not sure how you animated it, but I could tell it takes a lot of effort. Very well done.

Esn responds:

The artwork was drawn in ArtRage, and the images were saved either as GIFs (to save space without losing quality - mostly the backgrounds), or as PNGs (where transparency was needed around the edges of the image, such as the reindeer). It was animated in Flash by importing all the images into the library and making them into movieclips, and moving them around either with tweens or frame-by-frame modification.

Send me a PM if something's unclear.
