Oedipus Rex

This is my first experience making an animation, and my first time using Flash. Luckily I pick things up pretty quickly! I had the newest version of flash for this (hense, the opening scene with the puppet) because I wanted to mess around with the new bone system.

In any case, I am a pretty big Greek Mythology / Greek Drama fan and have had this idea in my head for over a year. I just didn't have the guts to jump into flash until now. Animated / drawn / written by me. The voices were done by me and I got help from some of my classmates this semester.

The movie is a re-telling based off Oedipus Rex (of the Three Theban Plays) written by Sophocles.

Please give some constructive comments, because I had a blast making it and I want my next one to be better!

EDIT: I am trying my best to fix the issues I've been having with both the pre-loader (which is not working properly) and my layers (which seem to have gotten out of order in some places)

I can see a lot of LegendaryFrog influence here. I saw another animated parody of Oedipus Rex and ultimately found it better. While this boasts more voice acting and smoother graphics, it also lacks a complete narrative even as a parody and is ultimately confusing and hard to follow.

However for what this is it seems fairly polished and you also have a really cute voice.

THIS IS CRAP!!!!!!!!its not the correct story at all, furthermore you only put in a few major parts and the ones that you put in dont make much sense!

Good for storytelling

I liked the condensed version of the story, with modernized language. If you could do that with some other classical plays or even short fairy tales, that would be entertaining. It reminds me of Puppets In The Park from waterman studios.
The animation was well done for the popsicle stick type of movement and the sound was clear and easy to understand. Again, well done and you should look into releasing a series of stories done this way!

Snow-Kitten responds:

Thank you, I am not familiar with Puppets in The Park, but I'll look into it. Also, because of the awesome response to this video, I do plan on making it a series of sorts - more condensed versions of other greek / roman mythologies and dramas. Please favorite me to be one of the first to know when I make more!

Yay for subdued humor!

Excellent performance. I never really enjoyed any of these types of stories (Oedipus, King Lear, Hamlet, etc), yet this one brought back all the things I apparently DID learn in class. Where was all that info when I needed it? Anyway, your delivery was spot on and very hilarious. Keep it up!

Snow-Kitten responds:

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, especially when you didn't particularly like the original story to begin with. That really says something.

One little part missing

you forgot the part where Oedipus gouges out his own eyes. After all, "love is blind." lmao

Snow-Kitten responds:

Didn't "forget" lol. read the other comments. :)
