Some stuff to luck, but it falls short
It looks good, but it doesn't feel good. The game moves at an achingly slow pace. You crawl across the map, and then your units crawl across the field. The pacing really needs to be addressed.
Beyond that, there are some elements of the game that seem fundamentally flawed: The fact that you have to enter into the combat screen when you encounter friendly structures or units. The fact that there is no way to judge an enemy unit's strength before combat, leading to trial and error gameplay. I would've liked to have seen more instruction on how to handle my brigade of fighters as well. The fact that I can't tell their attack range or their damage values before throwing them into the fray take much of the strategy out of this strategy game.
