Friggin Amazing

Awesome port of R-Type man. The graphics are true to the original and the game itself captures the R-Type experiance although without lives or enemy fire. You should make the ship more manuverable or have more speed upgrades. Also it would be good if the player could shoot after respawning. Other than that it's a solid flash. Lookin forward to future installments.

Remember SNES Launch titles?

If I remember right R Type or was it called Super R Type was one of the launch games for the SNES. It was the first game I had for it at least. Hell of a hard game! Was fun to play, and a great introduction to next generation of the time graphics. This is a great effort so far.. would be kewl to see the control turned up just a notch tho, and I noticed that its not wise to get too close to walls or anything. ^^

Good first version, should be entitled 0.5 though

By the way, it is traditional to put your 'working' area of the screen, uh, off screen. :) Were you are causing stuff to spawn, either put a black boarder over it or move it slightly out of the players view, it makes everything look a lot more professional. :)

Oh and your collision detection in regards to the player's ship has a few ... issues. :) Nothing serious though, I have seen worse in commercial games. (Mostly that area with the ring of baddies circling around, bad things tend to happen, even when they shouldn't. :) )

Also, the player is sometimes vulnerable after spawning (seems kind of random almost. . . .), AND the player cannot shoot!!! Which pretty much makes the player a lame duck for the first few seconds after spawning, which just sucks. :P

Overall rather nice, since I have the real R-Type I likely wouldn't play the final version too much, but definitely a rather well done conversion over.
