EDIT: DAILY 4TH!?!?!?! I LOVE YOU NEWGROUNDS :3 Tutorial collection too! Thanks Tom :D!
Wow. This took a while. You'll see what you mean when you see how much detail i've put into this and how many frames. My proudest work to date. This covers:

Movement
Gravity
Floors
Doors
Walls
Enemy AI
Attacks
Health And Items/Powerups.

Sorry about being weak in enemy AI, i'm not very smart in it :P. Right click for options, and enjoy - I put a lot of work into this :)

EDIT: Added Flash API - be sure to click the ad for me ;D. I like moneh :D.

EDIT 2: I flicked through a few reviews, some recent concerning the music. There is a right click menu with options to turn the music off, to let you know ;).

Very Useful

I found out that in one of the playable screens you can walk off the screen and come back on a lower "level" than the previous; so I can go low enough to get past the door without opening it and jump back onto the original "level" :P. It's the one where the door is introduced. Other than that though, this tutorial I find more useful than another one I used on another website, since it didn't include opening doors and enemy attacks.

Thanks! The code isn't perfect, I think you can fix that glitch by putting under the grav = 0 or whatever _y-- but i think it makes you move up and down and doesn't fix it completely. I cant think it off the top of my head tho :P.

This is nice

I'm actually learning actionscript with a book and it really alks about all the functions in actionscript but sometimes i'd rather just learn how to do these kind of things, even though I din't really do it but still it's nice to read :P. didn't like the music though...

U can turn the music off in the right click menu. And yeah, this sort of stuff is easy for beginners, but functions and onEnterFrames or whatever aren't very different to this, so one day try to learn them :).

Brilliant

Great Tutorial 9/10,I think it`s great,well described.
P.S.Is the code in Flash or Javascript or what?

chunkycheese12 responds:

In flash, Actionscript 2 or AS2 :)

Not bad.

It's not bad. Could be better, but not bad. The movement section is pretty clean. As you said, not the greatest AI. Also, you could pick up the items by swinging at them. Of course, this could actually be incorporated into a game, but it's not the greatest thing in the world. Also, you should probably try to stay away from coding in movieclips. It's fine if you do, but if you want to transition into AS3 anytime soon, you should probably code in the timeline. It's also a lot easier to find stuff, because everything is in one place. Also, there's a glitch where if you jump, and attack while in the air, you fall through the ground. Not horrible, and really easy to fix, but still, you know what I mean. So overall, it was pretty good for a beginner to low-intermediate actionscripter, but it could be better.

I know, it's for beginners. I code on the frame now, but for beginners who dont want to travel to AS3 should keep it simple in movieclips for now. This tutorial was made for 'i dont know much' people.

Great!

Very informative! One of the great things about this tutorial is the fact the it has explanations which helped me understand a lot.

great job!
