The sequel is now up on Newgrounds - you can check it out by selecting the 'also by this author' in the bottom left.

A brand new version of the card game The Necronomicon, with a new game mode, and full of new art drawn up by various contributors. There are now 30 ranks to beat, and the game ends when either you get to 30 before your opponent, or they beat you up to rank 30.

Bug fixes, game changes and tweaks, and a whole new game mode called Challenge Mode. Defeat the opponent in a series of scenarios where the odds are stacked against you.

Also includes some rule changes and creatures now have additional abilities.

** NEW - . - MASSIVE update to how the cards are dealt out. Basically what happens now in the fix is that you both have a deck of whatever amount of cards are unlocked, and each card will be seen once by each of you. There will be no duplicate cards appearing until your deck has been exhausted and shuffled, and so the only dups you will see are the cards you held from the previous shuffle. Makes everything much more balanced.

Now that I've finally beaten the main part

I can give you a review. It's a great game overall. The AI is good enough to be challenging, but it does have its stupid moments. I definitely enjoy balancing health and sanity in my strategy. I'll be hoping for 3.0 with maybe more cards and better AI?

I've been playing this game forever...

and never made a review? Dear me. Where are my manners?

Gameplay wise, this is a great game. Typically keeps you on your toes in the normal mode. It's not impossible, but isn't easy. You've created a really nice balance (and my friend and I have witnessed some awesome endings like desperately using the Mad Experiment card and luckily getting the 15 + arcane hit to win) and that's why I keep coming back to this game.

As stated below, the "AI" is a bit dumb at times. Fixing that up would be nice, to make it seem as though you are playing against a completely competent person.

I will also state that a lot of the Challenges are nigh impossible. Specifically number 2. It's very imbalanced, because the AI almost always gets the Dark Young Charge card, of which nearly kills you or just straight up kills you. If you gain invincibility, the AI shortly gains it as well or removes it the next turn. It seems to almost always pit you into this impossible fight. I've tried and tried, but never won. After trying out a few other ones, and again seeing how impossible they are, I stopped trying (I only have the first one completed, because it was actually possible).

A little tweaking couldn't hurt on those, unless you can otherwise prove that they are possible by some random luck.

I do hope that you plan a Necronomicon 3.0 sometime in the future. :)

fun game, with some problems

I've been enjoying the first version of this game for a long time now, and am pleased to have found this improved version :-) It's great fun, and the lovecraftian theme taps into the player's memories of HPL's many stories.

There are some problems, however. First, there is a bug affecting the scores page (screenshot here): 10-06-12.2248.png

Second, the opponent AI is pretty abyssmal. It plays creature cards while xenophobic, plays manuscript cards while schizophrenic, and plays light damage cards when the player's creature's counterstroke will kill it. It shouldn't be hard to detect these conditions and refrain from playing useless or counterproductive cards.

These problems will not stop me from playing and enjoying the game, of course :-) two big thumbs up for Necronomicon 2.0!

Have been playing this for Days.. 2 year old game be nice if there was an update or a 3.0 soon
Only complaint, seemed the 21-30 levels were much easier than the first 20, I've beat the game several times now, needs a difficulty increase

This is a fun and awesome game!

The game mechanics are very easy to understand and entertaining. In the next version, you should integrate deck building and a card store. You could make use of the points that way as well. And once you hit a certain point threshold, that's when really good cards get unlocked. And to make the game longer, you should be able to play other people on NG in an MMO sort of way. THAT would be spectacular.
