Time to kill
well this game overall is pretty fun, but I have a few issues with it:
1. why I can't shoot through metal crates, and some floors when enemy's can.
B. how little helth you regain, thats not really cool how a health up gives you one bar back when the enemy's can take 2-3 away with a shot
3. no big clues on what happens in the game, no door unlock sign, no screen shot to tell you you have to wander around and guess thats bull.
now your probably wondering why do I say it's bullshit hard. first off the health system sucks, it only gives you one bar. and I know there's one that gives you more but it still causes a problem cause through out the early parts of the game all you have are those poor healths. the enemies are a pain in the ass if you ask me, the soldier's weapons would have you literally flying back across the screen forcing you to make you may back up. I never had a problems with those Bomb-Dogs as I like to call them (they look like bull dogs to me despite they have six legs) but if there's any enemy I hate its the Robotic-Circular-Blades-of-Death (again I made that name up). every time I try to take those guys out my shots have no effect on them cause the blades act like a bullet-proof shield. so I would have to wait till they stop so I could take them out. I understand your just trying to make the game challenging but for love of god don't give mediocre health that fills one bar and tough enemies right in the beginning of the game. I never made to the second level and because of these problems I somehow can't get as far in the first level as I used to, and it hasn't even made a while sense I last played. on the other hand the A.I is pretty good and I was really impressed cause you don't see A.I as advanced as they are here, the soldiers would take cover, duck and fall back when being charged at or when right in front of the player in the open field. the only thing I don't like about the A.I is how they know where you are all the time. take the first building you encounter, as soon as you enter the building and take out the soldier coming towards you you see an enemy that is on a floor right above you and you see him following you (not just when your under the lift as it goes up and down) and trying to shoot you. this kind of ruins the element of surprise as the A.I would always know where you are, always. the game is still fun but its not all that fun cause of that has been mentioned. the graphics really don't make up for it either, there's very little difference between low, medium and high and non of them make the game look any better. to be honest the game looks pretty bland, when you move you see the area around you kind of vibrating and I guess it looks alright. the animation is pretty good though everything jumps, ducks, waves, as it should. the lack of sound is quiet disappointing cause the music kind of helps gives you the feel. one thing I forgot to mention early is some of the weapons, the pistol and SMG in particular, they both kind of feel the same cause when you kill a soldier with a pistol they go flying back and if there's nothing infront of them they'll often go flying out of the screen, same thing happens with the SMG. this kind of makes the pistol and the SMG both very similar (despite the pistol is semi while the SMG is auto) and over powered cause they feel like shot guns.
well-coded, semi-fun, bad graphics
love the rag-dolls. the gameplay is a bit dull but at least the code is pretty polished. the graphics are really grainy (should have used bitmap smoothing).
Really freakin glitchy
To tell the truth i would of enjoied this game if it wasnt for the glitches
Glitch 1.I couldnt stop firing my guns in mission 1 no matter what i did
Glitch 2.I couldnt progress cuase the shaft looking doors wouldnt open even when it said it was (i had to wall glitch to get through them)
Glitch 3.The only way i was able to get over Glitch 2 was to do another glitch
By jumping into the wall over the shaft looking door.After jumping a few times i glitched right through the wall
Glitch 4.The moment i picked up the SMG i had 999 Ammo...The second time i tryed the mission it said i had 30 after i picked it up again
Im pretty sure theres more but i couldnt take it after Mission 4 i just gave up cause of the glitches
Also the game is waaaaay to easy,i'd really like it if you made it a little bit harder
Ah, at last, something to review. Well, lets get this trainwreck moving then.
First of all the graphics, they look nice and the main character is well animated but allow me to say this - photographic backgrounds are never good, at best they look horrible and out of place, at worst they make your own art look shit, worst of all you seem to have put some photographic obstacles in as well, maybe you're bad at drawing that stuff, maybe you're just lazy but that doesn't really make it excuseable.
The gameplay is adequate, pretty much extremely standard sidescrolling shooting gameplay and it got rather dull quite quickly for me, maybe it didn't for some people but then I'm used to more intellectual or more fast paced games.
The ragdoll physics sometimes seemed to make the game ridiculous or unrealistic, for example; You're shooting at the enemy from quite far away with the pistol, you kill them and they fly several metres back. The physics would be a lot nicer if the engine (or whatever) for them was a lot less broken or more sophisticated, although I'll appreciate how insanely hard that will probably be to do. Another thing regarding the physics, the starting crash cutscene thing cut to them far too quickly and I was half expecting to have to go through the game with my character in a wheelchair after seeing it.
Overall we have a slightly above average sidescrolling shooter, it could be a lot worse I guess but it's just a bit, meh.
