The Mandelbrot Set is a fractal named after mathematician BenoƮt Mandelbrot.

This simple Flash application allows exploring this beautiful fractal.

Hover the mouse over the + or - buttons to zoom in or out.
Hover the mouse over the arrow buttons to move.
Press the R button to reset zoom and position to original state.
Keyboard S zooms in.
Keyboard D zooms out.
Keyboard arrow keys move.

This may require a fast computer to have fluent animation.

Tip: Zoom near the complex borders of the fractal to view infinitely deep complexity. Try to discover "minibrots", which are much smaller, sometimes rotated, copies of the Mandelbrot's main shape.

Update: Due to popular demand, added keyboard controls! Use CTRL+F5 or CTRL+SHIFT+R in your browser in the window that shows the flash to hard-refresh to ensure the newly uploaded flash is there. Click on the flash movie with the mouse to ensure it has keyboard focus before the keys work.

I agree

keyboard controls would be all to easy to add and yet it would add all the difference
apart from that simplistic and beautiful

Aardwolf responds:

Done! It works rather smooth on my computer: arrow keys to move, S and D to zoom in/out.

Controls could be better

This was pretty nice, although not really a game. One time in high school I input a program into my crappy Casio graphing calculator that was supposed to plot Mandlebrot, not knowing what the heck it was. I had to restart the damn thing. Like others have said, keyboard controls would be a monstrous improvement.

At first i was like "wtf this is lame...."
But I went back read the description and zoomed in.

And i gotta tell ya, Its amazing. Its so complex and intracet, and im not sure, but it seems like it goes on forever.

Seriously man, this is both thrippy, and cool.

Not very exciting, but nice fractal. You should get more than one for a game...

Odd, but nice

I don't know why, something about amazing colours makes me feel good, anyway. Ur game was pretty cool, wierd but cool. Reccomendation tho, moving is very... rigid. and u should have more coulour int here instead of a huge.. hug e black spot. I like it tho lol Good luck with future games.
