It was ok

I liked it but it seem a bit to slow paced for me and when a bunch of enemies are on me it's a bit hard to counter them besides just putting up you shield till you're full health but even then the rangers and ones with longer ranged weapon are hard to hit. I couldn't really get far with this however the looks were nice and the death scenes were very good and enjoyable to see. And as a first game I have to say great job.

Thanks. I am still pretty new with flash games, but this was not my first game. I submitted The Rise of a Knight under my new username SeethingSwarm, but there are 2 other games and a few movies of mine submitted under my old username SecretSecretary. Check them out if you get the chance :)

I agree this game does get a bit slow-paced at times, but I guess its just a matter of opinion if you like it or not. I think it added to the atmosphere and immersiveness. Thanks for the review!

but I couldn't get past the part with the goblin archers.almost everytime, there was a guy with a shield and sword or a guy with a spear,a big guy with a mace/spiked bowling ball, and an archer who was behind all of them wha attacke two seconds after them.IT is also very repetitive.

I dont know what to say, try to use your special move with strategy and dont let them become enough to overwhelm you. Kill them swiftly my young rising knight :)
Glad you thought it was good!

quite cool

was quite a cool game - i liked the bit at the starts - rolling some of the credits during gameplay, very proffesional :P
nice gameplay, but i dont get what the point was of jumping if they hit you anyway when you jumped into the air to try and avoid them.
Oh yeah - not to insult your intelegence or anything but i dont think the gobling chieften lead the gaurd into a trap i see it as that he; told the gaurd of the princess's location, he just forgot to mention there was a giant spider and an ogre in the way :P
(PS - spelling mistake: "I am here to rescue her form your evil cluches")
Just incase i spelt cluches wrong - the spelling mistake in the game was FORM

SeethingSwarm responds:

Cool this review made me laugh :)
Yeah maybe the storyline isnt that great, especially the narration. I didnt focus on it too much. And thanks for the spelling check. You did spell clutches wrong by the way. Well, in my opinion the goblin chieftan who isnt too bright himself, thought that by leading him into a cave rather to the castle main gates, he thought that spiders, a big spider moma, skeletons, and a lot more bad things awaiting would kill the guard, but that's just me :)

The jumping is definitely flawed. A lot of people have complained about it and I reckon a lot more will. Well, it is possible to jump over enemy attacks, just extremely hard and nearly impossible. It does have its uses for jumping over spike balls and getting to enemies on the roof, but yeah, mostly it is useless and I need to work on that for future projects.

Thanks for the review
Im glad you liked the game :)

didnt u beta test this game?

ok, where to begin.

first off, ur cut scenes need improving. i mean visually they're fine, its just that i ended up skipping a few without realisng. (it takes forever to to go to the next bit of text so i thought it was already finished) might i suggest a "next" button in the bottom right corner so the player can go to the next screen of the cut scene whenever he wants? that way fast readers dont have to wait for the game to 'catch up' and proceed to the next screen of the cut scene.

secondly, there are some bugs. like when the dagger traps or acid traps fall down, sometimes hit my player when im not actually next to them.

also, u realise u can just run and hold the A button for pretty much all enemies except for the spider and some of the goblins with range attacks right? i dunno if u intended that, maybe u did. but i like it anyway lol. also for the ogre boss u can just hold the jump button and A and beat him easily that way.

also, might i suggest having the [Space Bar] to also act as the 'jump' function?

and that spider queen boss was fucking annoying, the random spiders + acid made it frustrating. and why does the game end after the ogre? also i gotta say that i skipped the initial cut scene after a while, i got board. lol.

so basically here's the things needed for the sequel.

slight tweaks in the battle system
no cheap bosses with cheap minions and environmental aid ( cheap =/= difficult ;) )
cutscenes need a "next" button which highlights to signal to the player that he/she can skip to the next frame in order to speed up the process. this way i dont need to skip the intro anymore =)
maybe some customised material? (ability to purchase new armor + weapons, yes i know this isnt an RPG)

now for the good stuff
nice visuals
music suits the game and theme
i like the enemies, and i know the sequel will continue the story (am i right?) so new levels + enemies will inevitably follow.

hmm, that's all for now me thinks

Thanks for the great review!
Glad you liked the game even though there's a lot to improve upon. I am well aware of the bugs you have mentioned because of many angry and irritated players before you :) I have learned a lot from this game and I am pretty confident that those bugs will not appear in the sequel. I'll do my best just like I did with this one. The reason why Im not gonna fix them in this game is because I'll basically have to rewrite most of the code, and that will take ages...I'll rather take what I have learned and move forward with my next game.

Your suggestions for things in the sequel are all really good and I'll keep them in mind... Thanks again!
