I know it is your first submittion and all, but.
There are so many easier ways to do that, Trace bitmap being one, and just magic wanding it out with flash the other. As a tutorial I found it had to follow, and annoying you had to click you way through, and it was very disorienting with the zoom in on menus. Also, I understand recommending gimp, but once again it can and should be done in flash.

Gimp? No. You can do this in flash.
Import the spritesheet, edit it, break it apart and use the magic wand tool to delete the background. Due to that, this whole tutorial it utterly useless, not to mention badly made (hiding the cursor for no reason? -.-).

But I do remember "Not" hiding the mouse in almost all frames.
