This was very helpful for actually using the sprites but you wouldn't happen to know how to create youre own sprites would you? I'm thinking about making an animation and would like to use a sprite of different sonic characters other than the originals.

This really helped me, but I think it would be easier to fix the sprite's X and Y positions, instead of using onion skin to do an estimate on the positions. Well done.
