This is an adaptation of the ALIENS board game made by Leading Edge Games into Flash.

It is a hard game, but there are only 3 missions. Enjoy the difficulty.

Good luck.

"One express elevator to hell, going down"

Flamer kills don't have acid spray. Use them on aliens up close, but when the alien is on a marine, it's too late for flamers. Use melee (fist icon) to try to throw the alien off.

Pistols are almost useless. These marines should just move or help melee an alien off one of his buddies.

Grenades kill aliens 1 square away from the blast square, but injure marines up to 6 squares away. Plus, there is a chance the grenade will miss the target square by one, so plan carefully if you want to use grenades.

NOTE: It was designed for 1024x786, so I'm sorry if it's hard to make out some details in 800x600.

Excellent but...

Dude you have got to get a feature that remembers the people you saved from the last map so you can use them on the next one, because I hate not having the 6 people I saved from the reactor to not be in the operations level.

The game was the best flash game I have ever played in existance though.
Do you think you will ever do a second one, more levels and weapons? Perhaps based on Aliens: Colonial Marines or your own original storyline?

homedrone responds:

I'm not sure what you mean by "remember the people you saved". If you mean you want to continue to the Operations map with the marines you escaped the Reactor with and so on, you can do that, just click on Continue Mission at the mission result screen.

The fact that you can't save to retry sequel maps with rescued marines more than once though, that's intentional.

"Best flash game ever" might be a little extreme, but I thank you for it anyway . I might remake it someday and include a mission editor, but I don't have any time scheduled for that yet.

Fantastic!!! Been searching the web for years to see if someone had done this.Loved the boardgame and expansion and you have stayed faithful to it.

Read a few of the review and found that some people were a bit miffed about aliens just appearing on their marines.I think this is mainly guys who havn't played the board game.Maybe to make things clearer you could add a toggle button to show the squares where the aliens can actually appear from. This would also be very useful tactically so you can try and avoid them.

Read somewhere that you are moving onto another project PLEASE DONT WE NEED MORE OF THIS!
HUNT THE QUEEN MISSION from the expansion would be a nice addition!
Custom scenarios?
Mission designer : )!

Loved it mate nice one!

ps. Almost forgot, any chance of adding the rule from the boargame where the smart guns can take out 2 aliens with 1 shot when they are adjacent?

homedrone responds:

The double kill with the smart guns is already in there. Just be sure to choose the alien that is hardest to kill of any adjacent two. After you hit the first alien, a new set of targets will appear on any possible second kills.

Also, by playing from the 1st mission, when you arrive at the 3rd mission, you are essentially playing the HUNT THE QUEEN scenario from the expansion.

Thanks for the support.

Great translation of a little-known game

I own and still occationally play the Leading Edge boardgame, and it's expansion. This is a pretty well done, and faithful translation of it.

Yes, sometimes the Aliens spawn right on or right next to a marine. That's a direct carry-over from the boardgame. The randomness of the Alien spawn was, and is, a huge factor in how well or poorly an individual mission goes. I've played the same strategy that got everyone killed, and made it out with everyone alive. Possibly incorporating more info from the game manual into the tutorial (the Acid splash kill chance for example) will help people who are new to this get more enjoyment out of it.

I played an earlier version of this on another site, where it didn't have the ammo restrictions. Adding them in is an important change. As another poster noted, in the 'Rescue' scenario the rescued marines should be available for immediate use during the mission. One slight change, which was a house rule I'd adopted that you might want to consider, would be to let ammo/weapons carry over from mission to mission. Ex: Dietrich dropping her half-full flame unit after the Reactor, to switch to her pistol in Operations, never made sense to me. Something else that I've had problems with (at least in the older version on the other site) was that I have a hard time seeing some of the Aliens on the background, and can inadvertently walk a marine around a corner into them. Hopefully the brightness control you added in fixes this. 8)

All in all though, it's a ton of fun. Thanks for writing this up!

don't mean to be mean

I am an absolutely massive fan of the alien series and don't like detracting from other peoples efforts but i didn't feel like i was playing a game here. I played this quite a few times and read the tutorials but in the end i didn't feel like i had any control. aliens would appear on top of my marines on various levels, some aliens would practically survive everything i threw at them and in the end i felt like i was playing a game of dice where any decision i made was inconsequential. i wouldn't have any suggestions to fix this other than remake the entire thing. sorry :(

homedrone responds:

I don't think this game has mass appeal, so scores like yours are understandable.

There are a lot of random factors in the game. But I can consistently get 5 or 6 troops off on the first mission. You need some luck to get them all maybe. Something that is missing in my game is the data cards for each marine that you play with. The card shows you all their chances to kill the aliens at each range category. From that, you can see how best to use your weapons. I left them out cause I was lazy and cause I found you could figure it out just from trial and error. But for those who it might help, here is a basic run down of the weapons effectiveness :

Pistol: Has a range of 6 squares, but is really only effective one or two squares away, and that's using at least 2 actions.

Flame Unit: Has a range of 4 squares, and is effective at all 4 squares with 2 actions. At one or 2 squares, 1 action could be enough. This weapon needs a clear line of sight to the target.

Pulse Rifle: Has unlimited range, but effective range is 6 squares with 2 actions and 2 squares with 1.

Machine Gun: Also has unlimited range, and is good up to 6 squares with 2 actions. 2 squares with 1. Can kill two aliens with one shot. Shoot at aliens standing next to each other and select the alien hardest to hit.

Shotgun: Basically the same as the pulse rifle, being just a little more accurate at shorter ranges and a little less accurate at longer ranges, but not significantly so. Has limited ammo.

I realize, this might not address the issues you have with the game, but I thought I'd put it in here anyway. In defense of the game, I think the designers did a great job of taking the movie aliens and making a set of rules that on average will get results similar to the movie. If you play well, you can do better, and if you don't, you will do worse. But that said, I can see why it's not for everyone.

Very cool game

So glad I found this site! I'm a huge Aliens fan and absolutely love this game. Never got to play the original board game but i'm pretty sure i'd still like this more. I loved this game so much, I gave it a glowing review at my scifi site Inter-Galaxy Portal. Thanks!!
