(for a contest at VGDC)

As I've already said, THIS IS FOR A CONTEST. This isn't stolen. The contest? New Super Mario Bros. "Mega Mushroom" contest. I think I'm the one person out of 50 who chose 8-bit graphics.

The contest gives permission to use the VGDC intro. Randy Solem posts a link to the fla. file on the VGDC forums for all who enter the contest to use.

I whipped this up in a little more than a week, but don't judge it too quickly. I tried to use the same 8-bit graphic usage quality as the Super Mario Bros series (Parts I - V). I editted lots of sprites, made my own grass and completely remade the elements of the last NSMB level in NES sprites. That took a reeeeeally long time. Please vote fairly.

Enjoy the movie!

I liked it.

Excellent, good humor.

haha.. nice...

i liked it... and for whoever didnt know to preform a triple jump just hold space, it worked for me, and... keep up the good work!

I really liked it

You sir have a talent for spriting. One of the best sprite movies I have ever seen. It had every thing to make a great sprite movie. I especially liked the V-cam effects though.

Mario is a very overused charecter when it comes to spriting.

JonBro responds:

The V-cam effects?
Actually, this is probably my first sprite movie NOT including the V-cam. Everything is tweened.

And about the fact that it's Mario:
This was for the New Super Mario Bros contest. It was basically a requirement that you included Mario. That's the reason I used Mario. That and the fact that he's the only character I can sprite very easily.

If Only it was Funny...

You had something going there with the shnazzy preloader and custom sprites. The presentation was phenomenal and you had the perfect combination of sound effects. However, this was obviously meant to be funny, yet I found no real original or humorous content. The big mushroom squishes Mario ... Mario becomes extremely big and then shrinks in midair. Believe me, I know it's hard to think of Mario skits nowadays, since most of 'em have been done to death. I'm just dissappointed that you put all of that effort into the beautiful customs and spot-on animation and "wasted" it on such a mundane plot.

3.60/5.00, B-, 82/100

JonBro responds:

Actually, I think this might be as creative as Mega Mario jokes get without being random. Even so, randomness isn't very original.

Thanks for the rest of the review, though.

wow 1 of the only mario movies wen i actually laughed outloud at some of the scenes nj i love the part wen he eats the block lol

JonBro responds:

Hm... Indeed it does look like he eats it, but if you watch that part frame by frame, he throws it. Either way you interpret that split-second of animation, it's funny, I suppose.
