well overall its not bad, well done actually, but the original is better making this kinda pointless to play; normal mode was pretty hard and control were annoying even though they could be changed. i died 25 seconds into the game in normal and i finished the game b4 in the orginal. also i dont rly a big or any actually difference in this remake. still nicely made though
Straight to the point.
Bill is larger in proportion to everything else compared to the original, his jumps are too low, things drop too fast (except for the facehuggers in the final fight, they float their way down at their leisure) and the respawn isn't quite handled right. On the upside, the music is pretty good, especially the credits theme, and the Spread Shot was handled exactly like it was in the original. On the other hand, the Laser Gun is broken due to being able to fire more than once. If you play it less like you're playing Contra and more like you're playing a game that LOOKS like and SOUNDS like Contra, but isn't, you'll probably come away with a better experience. The addition of a leaderboard is a plus, as well, along with difficulty settings.
not exsactly the real game.I have the nes game and it does not have a time limit and it does have bosses and base fights.though i like how you can download it but it won't let me.the download window never opens.though it is a good game so i have to favorite it and give a desent rating. 4/5 8/10 for starting votes.if you have not played this before you should play!oh and for some reson, the cheats don't work.
Pretty darn good
I kinda agree with HONKHONKHONKHONK a little. It is great, but it doesn't emulate it 100%, but extremely close. I played hard because I expected Normal to be too easy. Haven't played normal yet, but the problem is that in hard, the turrets are a little tough to take down. In the original, they could get you if you weren't careful and you could take them down before they even shot your (or shoot them some, dodge other enemies and then finish off). Here, its like they have twice as much armor (maybe it is easier on Normal, but I don't want to play Contra that is too easy, Maybe Ill give it a try later). Pair that with enemies coming from behind (I don't think they did that in the NES version...correct me if I'm wrong) and it made ir really tough. Not to mention playing with a keyboard for this type of game isn't efficient (I have a Joystick to play this with, but don't feel like hooking it up yet).
Part of the lack of emulation was the limitation of the NES system. It could only display so many enemies at a time. You get more than 4 or 5 enemy sprites on the screen and they start the flicker just so the system can handle it. With this, you got them coming full throttle, and tons of them at that.
The enemies have a strange moving pattern sometimes which can cause chaos. Sometimes its good when they fall off the screen from the left side, but then it was weird on the next to last turret on the first level. On the original, all you had to do was jump and shoot and you know you would get them, but sometimes they would almost jump over you or somehow get between your shots. This didn't help when trying to take out the next to last turret (which are stronger than needed)
Still, this is great, I'll add it to my faves and play it with may gamepad when I'm not just playing around. Great game.
It doesn't really capture the Contra spirit, but..
I liked it. I really liked it. It was hard, fun, with lots of bullets, but I don't know. It's not really that Contra. It's... I don't know. It doesn't feel like Contra. Maybe it's not hard enough, or I don't know. Maybe it's because of the controls ( without a NES controller it feels kinda dull ).
Don't get me wrong, you recreated it really good. It's just that the original is always better. :)
