Full title: "Non-Skears-Game 005: Word Scrambles: Countries"

Work out 20 srambled country names. Letters are mixed up randomly. Names are in a pre-determined order.

Constructive criticism very much appreciated.
Also, let me know how you get on.

Be funky!

edits:
- I've added a skip button, due to demand
- I changed one name. (It was showing twice! A mistake!)
- sorted out a bug with the skip button I introduced
- modified end message
- sorted out pre-loader. There was previously a problem. The problem is no more.

(( This was interesting ))

~~REVIEW~~
This was interesting with the words and all. kinda fun, you could fix up the look of it with some deeper colors and shades for the layout, it would give it a bit of quality to it.

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
A new layout look.

~~OVERALL~~
Iteresting game, needs an improved look though.

~X~

Glad you liked it. At the time, I intended to make it into a complete thing, with the name of every single country.

But the drudgery of that task put me off.

Making flags for the NGcalander meant I had to do that anyway though, so expect a sequel to this sometime soon. With a new layout of course.

Ta for the review!

Fun game

I usually hate word scrambles but the capitalization made it easy enough for me to find this enjoyable. As it stands this is more of a test of spelling abilities than deciphering the country names. One major gripe that I had is that I had to use my mouse to click the question mark to submit my guess. You should really add a hotkey like the enter key to do this, and then clear the text box on a correct guess. It would make playing the game a lot more fluid rather than switching back and forth from keyboard to mouse. Also, these were all word scrambles. Anagrams have to form a new word or phrase. Otherwise, good work.

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Thanks, dude!

Glad the capitalisation made it more fun for you - I reckon I'd be the same.

The point with 'enter' submiting the guess and the text box is clearing is a great one. I'll have to learn to see if I actually can clear the text field...

These are word scrambles? Well, after looking up 'anagrams' in the dictionary, I realise I've been using that word wrongly... so thanks for setting me straight.

Btw, I give your review an 9/10 - constructive criticism/praise/enlightenment... this review offers it all.

The only way it could be better is if it had even more content. And maybe if the paragraphs were split into different lines.

Thanks again for the awesome review. I'll totally work on this game when I learn functions and arrays, so hopefully I can work on some of the criticisms I've gotten and you'll enjoy that version even more.

ok

if you get a wrong answer both skip and wrong guess goes up but if skipped nothing happen

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

That's a bug I introduced in the last few minutes. I've just re-uploaded. It should work now.

Thanks for alerting me!

I give your review 6/10. More info, such as how you got on, would have been nice.

But still, thanks.

needs better anagrams!

anagrams are only fun if instead of being a random jumble of words they are made up of other ones, for instance,
Lichtenstein could be "license it then"
Germany could be "my anger"
etc...
Go back to the drawing board!

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

I honestly hadn't considered that.

But I don't think every country can be made into an interesting anagram. I mean, for russia... 'airsus'? 'USSair'? Hmm... maybe I'm just disproving the point.

I would like to carry on with this idea though and obviously some folk enjoy it.

But thanks for raising the point.

I give your review 7/10

Quality piece of constructive crit, nicely explained with suggestions.

I think it'd have been nice though to know how you got on... or if the fact that the anagrams were random put you off from continuing.

Suggestions

1. Remove the capitalized letters. The way it is, it took me about 5 to 7 seconds to recognize Bangladesh and about 3 to guess Sierra Leone. I also got stuck at Liechtenstein, being not a native speaker and trying to write it in a couple of manners before just checking the word. However, other 18 countries are guessed in an instance. And my native alphabet is not Latin, mind you. Too easy, that's what I say.
2. Take some harder countries or even pick a different topic. Sierra Leone and Kazakhstan (for non-CIS) may be a challenge of several seconds, but putting short and well-known Sweden (2 times!) and Russia is... strange, should I say?
3. Develop your flash skills. Thus you will be able to deliver your ideas yet in more fascinating ways. Keep up the work.

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

brilliant review. Thanks a lot for all the feedback.

1) I kept them as I felt it might be too hard otherwise. It's hard for me to know how folk will find this, as I already know all the answers...

I think I'll put in difficulty levels - the hard one would have no capitals.

2) When I properly learn functions and stuff, I plan to make a version with every country (in a random order). And you'd have time limits. I didn't want to make it too hard for this version, as I kinda want everyone to complete it.

I have no idea what CIS means.

As I mentioned, it's hard for me to know how folk will find it, so thanks for all the feedback.

3) I will do! I'm reading through Colin Mook's AS book and frankly, I was well chuffed with my code for turning words into anagrams. This is something I could have never made before this week.

Great review. Quality suggestions and some real encouragement. Great exposition on how you got on.

I give your review 9.5/10

The only thing I could suggest would be to maybe pick out something specific that you liked. Or give more cc. I mean, you gave gfx a 4... were the in-game gfx okay? How could they have improved.

Anyway, thanks again for one of the best reviews I've ever read (let alone recieved).
