I figured I'd let you guys judge this before any potential employers. I'll warn you right now, there's no plot, no sound, no humor. Just eye candy.

i am also faced with the task of preparing a demo reel, except mine is for 3d modeling/animation and pencil art. you definitely have a good sense of color, choreography and composition. but, better you hear the truth from me than someone else. the art is a little rough. employers get about 50 demo reels per month. does yours really prove you can take flash to new dimentions? i didnt see anything new. definitely keep the jet, but animate more, and maybe hand paint/color the characters. this will add quality. the part where the skull zooms out (the skull should be detailed in closeup), or where the computer explodes, just look bad. better invest the time to make your flash better than to waste time being rejected. sorry to sound harsh but thats reality. you have to be THE ABSOLUTE SHIT to get hired these days.

however, i dont know the type of work you are applying for. maybe it doesnt require art skills, but instead has you prepare the flash itself, in that case u may be set. these days, people want somone who can do art and make the flash, so as to save money. check out for expert advice on making a kickass demo reel.

Thank you!!! This is exactly the kind of comment I was looking for when I uploaded this. I'm ll about constructive critisizm! And I know my art isn't that great, I was more looking at the directorial jobs, but I think I could probably improve on the art more anyway! Thanks again!

Mmm... Eye candy.

Nothing like sweets for the eyes. Hey, not EVERY movie has to have an elaborate plot and humorous wisecracks. Sometimes it's just nice to sit back, turn your brain off and just let your eyes take it in. This movie is nothing more than a collection of visualually pleasing clips from this guy's previous movies, which is just fine in my book. Mmm... eye candy.

how come you can do all this crazy shit like 3d, and you cant even put in a decent lighter!

Ben-Spurgin responds:

Heheheh you know, I always thought that lighter was the crappiest part of that movie. Why the hell did I even put it in there?! I will replace it with the 3D stick killing from Stick Slayer 2. Thanks!

It's Good...

I guess. It's well chosen clips and music. Not much new things or anything...but it's ok. Not much to say really, but it could get you somewhere. It was put together well....

You self absorbed bastard!

What the hell is wrong with you!? Ben Spurgin's Demo Reel... You actually put your name infront of the title? Who the hell do you think you are!? You don't see: Tom Fulp's Dress-Up Bulma, or Will Stamper's Street Life, and they're both a hell of a lot better then you. Personally, as a fellow Flash artist, I think your animation is REALLY overrated. It's sloppy, and you over-use gradients. You are better than most Flash artists on NG, of course. 90% of them don't know how to make a working loader. Anyway, just tone it down a little, your not that great.

PS. I'll be nice and not bring up: Ben Spurgin Leading Flash to new Dimensions. Oh wait. I just did.

Ben-Spurgin responds:

It's called a "Demo Reel" meaning it's what I use to show potential employers. I'm not trying to be a "self-absorbed bastard", I'm trying to sell myself.
Get it? Got it? Good.
