Average enougb flash, nice Easter idea.
Hmm, I’m afraid I really don’t know what to make of this flash. On one hand, I appreciate the fact you paid attention to the season and made a flash related to Easter. But on another hand, this flash doesn’t really have a plot and point, other than the fact that it’s Easter.
First off, graphics. Pretty bog-standard and decent enough, so it wasn’t too bad. I liked the etchy-sketchy style of this, the way you drew the black lines to create a dramatic and artistic look really paid off, and make the flash look creative. The animation was good too, and the man and bunny moved along in this sketch style very fluently. The way this flash moved along gave it a very ‘slapstick’ mood to it, especially when the man threw himself at the floor to catch the bunny, and missed, like in a classic cartoon such as ‘Tom and Jerry’. The only complaint I would have here, is that though I like your sketchy look to the flash, it also managed to look pretty MS Paint at the same time. The colours of the graphics looked pretty bland, and you just used single normal colours, no smudging colours or blending ect. I feel that you could do with using a few blended colours to no only make the flash feel pretty, but LOOK pretty. You should add a sense of realism into the look, provide us with a bit more eye-candy. Add shadows to the flash, add tones of colour, I feel that you would be able to pull of artistic and a hint of realistic at the same time. I also felt there was a big lack in graphics. I realise this is a short so it won’t be worth having loads of graphics in here, but what’s to say you should miss out attention to detail completely? Add some small details to the surrounding environment within the flash, give it personality. For example, a few clouds in the sky, fine details to the grass such as blades or knolls, and a fading sun in the background to accompany those hills.
Next, sound. Like graphics, pretty standard and could do with a few improvements. Though some didn’t like the sound, I personally liked it. Granted, it might have been cheesy; but it was also nice and kind of fast-paced, this really brought out the cartoon style in it and emphasized the slapstick feel. It also made me chuckle a few times because I found it funny, and it put a smile on my face since it gave off a happy mood. However, I do understand that some people didn’t like it so you could change the music if you make another one of these, for example using a classic ‘chase’ style of music like the one in “Jaws”. This would bring out the fast pace of the flash for the viewer to see. I was also a little disappointed that you neglected to have any sound effects, apart from the man giving of an odd scream at the end. I would like to see some effects from you, such as a sound effect when the man jumps for the bunny but lands flat on his face. Also, maybe a whirring noise of the man’s legs running fast, such as road-runner in “Loony Tunes”. Instead of the bunny just runny off, perhaps it could leap down a rabbit hole at full speed whilst the man is in pursuit, you could add a sound effect here.
Finally, content. I don’t really know what to say here, pretty average I must say. Like I might have mentioned before, I loved that classic cartoon ‘chase’ style of the flash. The bunny running off and the man screaming gave me a little chuckle and put a smile on my face. I was a little confused at why the man would scream so much and This doesn’t really have much plot, and a 10 second chuckle is all this will ever be good for, since there’s not much point to it apart from the affect it’s Easter. But then again, that’s why it’s a short isn’t it?
Overall, nothing breathtaking but nothing bad either. You made a good effort, and at least in those 10 seconds of the flash you made us smile. Happy Easter :)
