Mega Force OP

(CLASSIC OF THE DAY, APRIL 25 2005! Enjoy this old substandard flash movie!)

"This is my first flash."

That may be the most overused cliché in NG authors comments, but it is true. This is a long commentary, you may want to click to read more.

Mega Force was a toyline of small diecast miltary vehicles and bases by Kenner in 1989. Mega Force had no storyline and no characters, and also no cartoon to promote it.

I've decided to change that, and this is my project, the Mega Force OP. It is a two-minute opening sequence in the style of many Japanese cartoons, complete with cheesy pop music whose lyrics do not match the imagery. That's why you may think "That Music Is So Gay!" It is supposed to be that way. ~_^

I also have grand plans for this. If this is well recieved I'd like to make a full-length series with voicing and an end credits sequence too. I am looking for voices for all characters featured in this intro, and also a British voice to be Graham Vanguard and the narrator (largest and most important role!)

I hope that this opening shows some of the plot elements I plan to use in the series, which is a character-driven drama set in a World War with giant vehicles. Expect lots of depression and crying.

As my first flash, you can hopefully see how my animation improves from beginning to end. I know I will only get better, too.

Thank you for reading this, and also for watching. I'll probably be responding to reviews.

Dud that was cool, I love it

I would love to see more Ep's for this one , I like the concept here.
Show ME what you got.

Nostalgia Alert!

I literally stumbled across this submission. I'm sad to see it's almost a year later and there aren't any episodes. You seemed to have a good idea here. I have to admit, I was also excited because I thought I was the only one who had the Mega Force toys! I'm glad to see someone liked 'em enough to animate a short about them.

It was a good opening. I totally got what you were going for with the seemingly out of place music. I've seen too much anime that has hearts being ripped out, heads bashed in and limbs being torn off only to have the end song speak of lost love and sweet memories. WHAT?!

I think you have a good eye for visual storytelling and the chops to be a good animator. Please continue even if it's not with this particular project; don't let your talent go to waste.

Cheers!

Ok

I mean, your animation seems pretty nice as is, and the idea (if evolved) could be interesting. But if the other episodes are anything like this, Im going to cry. The music was weird, the maps were pretty random, and the characters just seemed weird (was that mom with the kid hit by a missile? It shows her just falling down with a bruise...)

Impetus responds:

I'll save you the tissues - there won't be any more episodes.

If I ever get the time to animate again, I'll likely pursue another concept.

Hmm. The maps should have been an easy part to follow, though. Showing the world being divided between two factions, Red (TRIAX) and blue (V-ROCS).

whaaa?

what the........ sorry, didnt get that.

And this is from the way back when of '03?

Very nice work, this even manages to compete with the majority of flash that are here today. So for the flash being so old it's surprising on how much it rivals with some of the other flash today. That's some really nice work being able to stand the test of time like that. Very nice that you managed to get the Classics of the Day randomization pick. Although it is sad that it's obvious you haven't actually continued the series or got a site up for it yet. A bit sad there, because I would like to see you continue, I'm sure you'd do just fine, even with today's new standards. If this was submitted today I probably would have docked the graphics and overall both down to 8s to be honest, but due to this being a classic '03 submission I kicked them both up a notch for you. The drawing are very nice and well animated, so nice work there. It was creative and a fun little intro to watch, even if there is nothing to be introduced (considering you've been a naughty little slacker). I did really enjoy that choice you had in music though, so that was definately a major plus for this flash. Also liked how you were caring enough to add subtitles when most flash authors neglect that aspect. So overall, very nice work, which I wish you would make more of. :'(

Impetus responds:

Thanks! I need to keep in perspective the fact that I was just learning to mouse-draw, let alone use Flash, in 2003. I've done a lot of drawing since that I'm quite proud of.

As for a website, check out this one which is not yet finished:

And yeah, I am a slacker. ;^^
